Pioneer Japan sent out a press release today, announcing two new 16x Blu-ray Disc writers, the BDR-S12J-X And BDR-S12J-B. Both drives are equipped with a Serial ATA Revision 3.0 interface and are capable of 16x BD-R, 14x BD-R DL, 8x BD-R LTH, 2x BD-RE and 2x BD-RE DL writing speeds and a maximum BD-ROM read speed of 12x. The BDR-S12J-X And BDR-S12J-B also write to triple-layer (100GB) BD-R media at 8x, quad-layer (128GB) BD-R media at 6x and triple-layer (100GB) BD-RE media at 2x.
What makes the BDR-S12J-X And BDR-S12J-B unique is their ability to play back Ultra HD Blu-ray content. When installed in a Windows 10 PC with the included PowerDVD software and an i7 or i5 Kaby Lake processor, users can play back movies at 4K resolutions. The two drives also ship with authoring software from CyberLink and are equipped with Pioneer's PureRead4+ technology, which greatly improves the reading performance of scratched and dirty discs.
The top of the line BDR-S12J-X also adopts a low resistance flat cable, anti-vibration parts and high gloss, hard coat UV paint. In addition, it has the ability to check and display the playback quality of an audio CD (CD-DA) and, in the case of a low quality level, recommend the settings for optimal playback.

QNAP Systems, Inc. (QNAP), a leading computing, networking and storage solution provider, today launched the TR-004, a 4-bay hardware RAID storage expansion device that can be attached to PC or NAS via USB 3.0 Type-C. The multipurpose TR-004 can be used to add storage space to a QNAP NAS, and can also serve as hardware-based RAID storage for PCs and NAS. The TR-004 offers convenient cross-platform file sharing and high flexibility for users, acting as a high-efficiency and intuitive storage expansion option.
The TR-004 supports individual, JBOD and RAID 0/1/5/10 storage configurations. QNAP NAS users can use the TR-004 with their NAS, including setting RAID parameters and creating a storage pool by using the “Storage and Snapshots” app within QTS. Alternatively, the TR-004 can be used as an external storage device of the NAS. The TR-004 can also be used with computers to facilitate file sharing and exchange, and supports the exFAT file system. Computer users with limited storage upgrade options can also use the TR-004 as an expansion unit, and a specialized QNAP External RAID Manager utility (Windows/macOS) can help them view disk health, change RAID configurations, check logs, and update the firmware of the TR-004.

Today Starblaze announced the availability of the STAR1000P NVMe solid state drive (SSD) controller for high-end client and entry-level enterprise applications. Performance optimizations enable the new controller to achieve sequential reads at 3.6GB/second and sequential writes at 3.2GB/second, up to 50% higher than Starblaze's previous generation controller, STAR1000. The STAR1000P achieves random reads at 750K input/output operations per second (IOPS) and random writes at 600K IOPS, up to 120% higher than Starblaze's STAR1000. The STAR1000P features PCIe Gen3x4, NVMe 1.3 and eight flash channels to support up to 32 terabytes (TB) of storage. The STAR1000P also incorporates a multicore implementation of Synopsys' DesignWare® ARC® HS38 processor, taking advantage of ARC's extensible architecture with custom instructions that improve scheduling efficiency.
