Samsung Electronics, a market leader in advanced memory technology and an innovator in consumer electronics, announced today that it is now shipping a new line of advanced SD and microSD cards that are ideal for digital imaging and mobile devices. The products will be available in PRO, EVO and Standard categories, suited for various use cases and performance levels for consumers and professionals.
Samsung’s extensive memory card lineup offers SD cards and microSD cards for use in many different consumer electronic devices. The PRO, EVO and Standard lineups are available in a wide range of capacities from 4 gigabyte (GB) to 64GB. While SD cards are most often used in digital cameras, DSLR cameras and camcorders, microSD cards are mainly used in mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets, as well as certain cameras and camcorders with microSD card slots.
The new lineup of Samsung memory cards have newly designed exteriors and branding, with refreshing color choices for each category—professional silver for PRO, romantic orange for EVO and emerald blue for Standard. Each of the new memory cards also have distinctly printed white numbers that indicate the capacity of each card.
In addition, Samsung’s new memory cards meet the growing demand for high performance, capacity and reliability level required by users. The PRO and EVO products both support Ultra High Speed (UHS-I) Class 1 level performance and offer fast read speeds of up to 90MB/s and 48MB/s, respectively.
The wide range of storage capacities aim to satisfy the rising demand for large data storage volume. With Samsung’s 64GB PRO memory cards, users can record approximately 670 minutes of full HD video (30fps) without the need to change or replace the memory card.
In order to ensure the reliability of the new memory cards, Samsung has designed them to be waterproof, temperature proof, X-ray proof and magnet proof, allowing them to withstand some of the harshest conditions. All models are guaranteed to survive up to 24 hours in seawater and endure operating temperatures from -13°F to 185°F and non-operating temperatures from -40°F to 185°F (-25°C to 85°C and -40°C to 85°C, respectively). Data in the cards will not be affected by the X-rays and can resist up to 15,000 gauss magnetic force. Additionally, the SD cards can withstand the force of a 1.9 ton vehicle.
“Samsung plans to take the lead in the growth of high-density memory cards by strengthening our product competitiveness through improved performance, product quality, broad capacity options and sophisticated design,” said Unsoo Kim, senior vice president of brand product marketing team at Samsung Electronics. “In the future, we will create next-generation memory cards that have even faster speeds and higher memory storage volume that will enhance consumer satisfaction level and solidify Samsung’s branded memory business leadership.”
Samsung has been leading the global NAND Flash memory market since 2002, and also achieved the largest share in the branded SSD market last year, only two years after it entered the branded SSD market. With proven competence in the industry, Samsung also plans to strengthen and expand its branded memory card business this year.
Samsung starts to offer the new memory cards today, positioning and strengthening its presence in the global market including Korea, U.S, China, Europe and other regions.
