QNAP, Inc. today announced the app-centric QTS 4.0 Turbo NAS system is available for the existing Turbo NAS series, including TS-x69, x19 and x12 series. Users of the applicable Turbo NAS models can download and update to the latest QTS 4.0 system to enjoy the entire new NAS management experience and the abundance of home entertainment applications.

The app-centric QTS 4.0 integrates multi-window operations into the web-based user interface, adds the Qsync utility for file synchronizing across different devices and file sharing across groups and communities, supports several smart mobile apps, and more. The abundant multimedia applications the QTS 4.0 offers a greatly enhanced entertainment experience in the modern connected home.
Multi-window operations
The QTS 4.0 offers a new desktop design to aid working efficiency. The multi-window design allows multiple tasks to run concurrently, and enables users to switch between them to increase productivity.
Qsync for file synchronization
The combination of the Qsync utility and Turbo NAS achieves seamless file synchronization, enabling users to keep their files updated on each linked computer and mobile device. Qsync provides flexible ways of file synchronization and group file sharing with the Team Folder, greatly enhancing the flexibility of collaboration.
Smart mobile apps
Users can easily access Turbo NAS through mobile apps. The Qmusic app streams terabytes of music on the Turbo NAS directly to mobile devices. Users can easily enjoy large music collections anywhere and anytime. The Qfile app allows remote connection to the Turbo NAS, and convenient file uploading, downloading, sharing and management. The Qmanager app is useful for remotely monitoring and controlling the Turbo NAS system status, services, downloading and backup tasks at anytime, anywhere.
Integrated multimedia entertainment
The Turbo NAS provides versatile multimedia applications and acts as a media hub at home. The support of DLNA and AirPlay allows users to enjoy a TV experience in diverse ways. The rich applications make it easy and convenient to collect, manage and share large collections of photos, music, and videos, enriching home entertainment.
“To complete the offering of QTS 4.0, QNAP will also release a business-oriented QTS 4.0 beta version for business models, including TS-x79, x70U, and rackmount Turbo NAS models,” commented Chang. The QTS 4.0 for business offers powerful business functions, including capacity expansion, up to 400TB, flexible volume management with storage pool, thin provisioning volume, performance enhancement with SSD caching, advanced data protection, and improved virtualization applications such as supporting VMware VAAI and Microsoft ODX (Offloaded Data Transfer). Besides, data deduplication technology, snapshot and snapshot replication are in the pipeline for late 2013.
QTS 4.0 key features include:
Intelligent desktop: multi-window, quick Start menu, smart Dashboard, drag-and-drop icons, multiple desktops, personal wallpapers, and smart Toolbar with desktop preferences, online resources, quick search, event notifications, external device and background tasks;
- File Station: supports photo thumbnails, photo setup with properties and privileges, moving files from local computers to File Station by drag-and-drop, recycle bin categorized by shared folders;
- Photo Station: provides a new user interface, customized virtual slideshow by dragging and dropping photos, auto-sorting photos in a timeline, and photo tagging and labeling, photos and videos backup with Smart Import;
- Music Station: provides new user interface, allows music streaming, and offer thousands of built-in Internet radio stations;
- Media Library: supports file transcoding;
- HappyGet II: as a third party application that supports backing up YouTube, Vimeo, niconico videos and Facebook photos;
- Surveillance Station Pro: provides new user interface ,cross-browser support on PC with IE, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, and added support for hundreds of new IP camera models;
- App Center: provides more than 90 install-on-demand apps to increase applications on the Turbo NAS;
- myQNAPcloud.com: a new QNAP membership portal for managing registered Turbo NAS devices, accessing published NAS services, and quickly linking to start.qnap.com for online system setup without using a CD;
- Qsync utility: creates a specific “Qsync” folder for users to simply drop files into, and automatically synchronizes the files to all of the devices that are linked to the Turbo NAS, with multiple ways of file synchronization and group file sharing;
- QAirplay: supports browsing videos, music and photos stored on the Turbo NAS and playing on the TV via Apple TV;
