Verbatim® Americas, LLC, a global leader and innovator in the digital storage industry, announced at Macworld today its new ExpressCard SSD for PC and Mac users. The new card is a solid-state drive (SSD) that provides ExpressCard slot-equipped XP/Vista PCs and OS X-equipped Macs® with plug-in storage that is up to five times faster than USB based ExpressCards. Based on the 34mm ExpressCard module (75mm x 34mm x 5mm), the Verbatim ExpressCard SSD will be available the end of February with capacities of 16, 32 and 64GB. The high-performance, high-capacity storage solution comes bundled with NTI Shadow™ IV, a backup application that provides PC and Mac users with continuous real time backup of critical data.
With read speeds of up to 125MB/sec (833X) and write speeds up to 30MB/sec (200X), Verbatim’s new ExpressCard SSD offers significantly higher performance than USB-based ExpressCard SSD solutions, due to the throughput limitations of the USB 2.0 interface. Verbatim’s PCI ExpressCard SSD is also enhanced for Windows® ReadyBoost® to allow the user to allocate a portion of the device’s unused storage capacity to speed system performance on Windows Vista™ equipped PCs.

Seagate (Nasdaq: STX) today announced first-to-market volume shipments of a mainstream desktop hard drive with the industry's highest areal density. Packing 1TB of capacity on just two disks, Seagate's Barracuda(R) 7200.12 HD, a 3.5-inch 7200-RPM drive features an areal density of 329 Gigabits per square inch to deliver the best combination of capacity, performance and reliability for PCs, desktop RAID and personal external storage.
"Demand for more desktop PC storage capacity is far from letting up as computer users worldwide generate massive amounts of digital content every day," said Tom Major, Seagate vice president, Personal Compute Business. Amazon announced today that its Video On Demand service will soon be available via the Roku Digital Video Player. Using the $99 Roku Player, consumers will be able to purchase or rent and then instantly watch more than 40,000 titles, including new release movies the same day that they are released on DVD.
Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) today announced that it will offer customers the ability to instantly purchase, rent and watch digital movies and TV episodes from its popular video service, Amazon Video On Demand, via the Roku Digital Video Player. Beginning in early 2009, the Roku Player, which currently supports only the Netflix service, will offer access to Amazon Video On Demand’s more than 40,000 commercial-free movies and television shows, enabling Roku customers for the first time to watch new release movie titles instantly.

Iomega announced today that it will be showing off its new Home Media Network Hard Drive at this year's MacWorld tradeshow. ASUS announced this week that its Xonar HDAV1.3 Series sound cards now support Dolby TrueHD audio bitstream. Thanks to the cards' AV200 audio processor and ArcSoft’s TotalMedia Theatre software, users can output Dolby TrueHD audio to their AV receiver at a lossless compression rate of 24bit/192KHz.
