While Fujitsu's talks with with Western Digital may have fallen through, Toshiba has stepped up to the plate with its own offer to buy the company's money-losing hard drive business. According to MarketWatch, Toshiba is  is in the final stages of talks and is expected to pay 30 to 40 billion yen ($333 to $444 million).

Japan's Toshiba Corp. is in the final stages of talks to buy Fujitsu's hard-disk drive business for 30 to 40 billion yen ($333 to $444 million), according to a media report Wednesday.

A deal would make Toshiba the world's biggest supplier of small hard drives ,the Nikkei newspaper reported.

Top executives at Toshiba and Fujitsu were expected to meet within a week, and if they reach an agreement, a deal could be announced by the end of this month.

Additionally, the two companies will make their digital libraries of mainstream content available under the Blockbuster brand resulting in one of the most expansive VOD (video on demand) and EST (electronic sell-through) offerings in the marketplace.
