Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST) today announced that it has shipped more than 25 million Travelstar™ Z-series, 7 millimeter (mm) z-height, 2.5-inch hard disk drives (HDD), enabling a new era of thin and light portable computers, ultra-compact CE devices and industrial systems. The company also announced that it is now shipping its new 500GB, Travelstar Z7K500 drive – the industry’s fastest and highest capacity, one-disk, 7,200 RPM HDD. All Hitachi GST Z-series drives can serve as a direct replacement for standard, 2.5-inch 9.5mm hard drives. They feature common connectors and mounting points for simple integration into existing systems, and enable greater design flexibility to differentiate and meet market demands for new, thinner, lighter and more robust devices.
Embraced by many of the top PC OEMs, the Ultrabook specification authored by Intel™ offers opportunities to create a compelling tablet-like computing experience in an ultra thin laptop design. In addition to providing a thin and light design, instant-on capabilities, and an extended battery life, PC OEMs must also create high-quality, cost-effective solutions to help drive competition, differentiation and mass adoption.
To help achieve this goal, a key part of Intel’s Ultrabook specification is combining a 7mm HDD with a SSD cache, giving OEMs the ability to explore the limits of modern ultra thin and light designs without sacrificing capacity, performance, battery life or quality. For instance, a Hitachi 7mm HDD combined with an SSD cache can help OEMs meet the Ultrabook specification for performance and start up times, while providing a high-capacity, space-efficient, and cost-effective solution. Based on Hitachi’s OEM customer plans, this combination is expected to ship in a significant majority of Ultrabooks in 2012.

Synology America Corp. today announced the latest in its line of scalable NAS servers, the DS1812+. Designed with small business users in mind, the 8-bay DS1812+ can quickly scale out to 18 drives by leveraging the expansion capabilities of the DX510.
The DS1812+ is the largest capacity DiskStation to debut under $1,000, making a powerful and affordable storage solution. Using 4TB drives, it can quickly scale up to 72TB storage. It makes for Synology’s fastest small business server to date, reaching read/write speeds up to 202MB/s and 194MB/s respectively. OCZ Technology Group, Inc., a leading provider of high-performance solid-state drives (SSDs) for computing devices and systems, today announced the immediate availability of the OCZ-SANRAD VXL enterprise storage accelerator, delivering flash caching and VMware acceleration for virtualized environments including VMware® ESX and Citrix® Xen.
OCZ-SANRAD VXL drastically alters the available options for storage in the enterprise datacenter by allowing any PCIe-based OCZ Z-Drive R4 model including the newly introduced Z-Drive R4 CloudServ™, to be utilized as a accelerator for traditional iSCSI and FC storage. This eliminates the need for costly tier-1 SANs in a wide range of enterprise IT infrastructures from application virtualization to virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).

Verbatim will be unveiling its portfolio of new products for 2012 at CeBit in Hanover, Germany, from the 6th to the 10th of March in the Planet Reseller area in Hall 14/15, booth H33. The irritating wait time for a movie to finally start in your home cinema will now drastically decrease with SlySoft's latest release of AnyDVD. A new feature called "Speedmenu" allows you to instantly replace the original Blu-ray menu on the disc while you play the movie or rip it to your hard disc.
As with everything AnyDVD does, AnyDVD creates the Speedmenu "on the fly", to mean seamlessly. The disc is remastered within seconds using AnyDVD's unique "Magic File Replacement(tm)" technology.
If enabled, the Speedmenu is instantly available as soon as you insert a disc and play it on your PC. If you decide to backup a disc the Speedmenu will be on the backup as well.
