The SM2258 controller employs the company's proprietary NANDXtend™ technology consisting of LDPC hard and soft decoding as well as RAID protection that together triple the P/E cycles of 3D TLC NAND - extending the SSD lifespan and ensuring data integrity. SM2258 also features advanced Direct-to-TLC and SLC Caching algorithms for optimal sustained performance with TLC NAND.

Marvell, a world leader in storage, cloud infrastructure, Internet of Things (IoT), connectivity and multimedia semiconductor solutions, today announced the Marvell® 88RC13xx family of high-performance RAID storage controllers with a full set of features that include eight 6Gbps SATA ports, four lanes of PCI Express 3.0, and a 10Gbps USB 3.1 device port with Type-C connector support. The product line consists of a high performance AHCI RAID on chip (ROC), an innovative NVMe ROC, a DRAM-less input/output (I/O) processor with HW RAID 0, 1, 10 and a cost-effective I/O controller. These products service a range of markets, including cloud infrastructure, enterprise storage arrays, SATA Host Bus Adapters (HBA), networked video surveillance, external directly attached USB 3.1 and Thunderbolt-3 storage (DAS), and entry-to-mid-range servers. The AHCI ROC is currently sampling to Marvell customers; the other products will be available in 2017.

Samsung Electronics, the world leader in advanced memory technology, announced today that it has begun mass producing the industry’s first NVMe PCIe solid state drive (SSD) in a single ball grid array (BGA) package, for use in next-generation PCs and ultra-slim notebook PCs. The new BGA NVMe SSD, named PM971-NVMe, features an extremely compact package that contains all essential SSD components including NAND flash memory, DRAM and controller while delivering outstanding performance.
