Synology today introduced DiskStation DS415play, a four-bay NAS server designed for home users to centralize their high-quality videos, photos, and music in one place and featuring Full HD video transcoding.
“With four drive bays, the DS415play is built on the popularity of its little brother, DS214play, with up to 24TB of large storage space to make it even more appealing to media fanatics,” added Michael Wang, product manager at Synology Inc.
Powered by the hardware accelerated transcoding engine, Synology DS415play features 1080p Full HD video transcoding on the fly, allowing users to convert their media files to supported formats and stream them effortlessly. Users can enjoy their media collection in original HD quality via Apple TV, DLNA devices, mobile devices, and computers.
Synology DS415play is equipped with a 1.6 GHz dual-core CPU and 1 GB RAM, delivering an average of 112.45 MB/sec reading and 101.21 MB/sec writing speeds under RAID 5 configuration in a Windows environment. The built-in floating-point unit of DS415play further enhances user experience for multimedia enjoyment and thumbnail generation.
The DS415play runs on DiskStation Manager (DSM) 5.0, an intuitive operating system that provides a host of applications to bring better productivity at work. Synology was voted as “PCMag Business Choice Award 2013 winner” and received the highest rating in every element of the survey, including reliability, overall satisfaction, value, and likelihood to recommend.
