Synology Inc. today launched the DiskStation DS416j, a budget-friendly 4-bay network attached storage (NAS) server designed for home and personal use to manage data and enjoy multimedia. The new NAS is ideal for viewing and streaming content on TVs, computer monitors, projectors, tablets, cell phone screens, and more.
"People are amassing photos, videos, and digital files faster than ever before, which means we need secure storage to centralize everything in one place, and a convenient way to access and share them," said Jason Fan, product manager at Synology Inc. "The 4-bay DS416j comes with rich applications and large storage capacity, letting users enjoy cloud synchronization and multimedia streaming at a competitive price."
With a dual-core CPU, the DS416j delivers high performance and exceeds 112 MB/sec reading and 101 MB/sec writing, under RAID 5 configuration in a Windows® environment. Compared to its predecessor, it has a 37 percent increase in writing speeds. Additionally, the built-in floating-point unit (FPU) also enhances the overall capability of the main CPU, and users can generate photo thumbnails faster. Equipped with a USB 3.0 port, the DS416j can connect to external hard drives and other devices for high speed transmission of media content and personal files.
With user feedback in mind, the front LEDs on the DS416j allows users to adjust and schedule the brightness with four levels of intensity to choose from. The DS416j is designed to be energy efficient, using only 21.6 watts in full operation and as little as 12.75 watts in HDD hibernation.
The DS416j runs on the DiskStation Manager (DSM), the most advanced and intuitive operating system for network attached storage devices. The DSM offers a wide range of applications for home and personal use: from backup solutions to multimedia software. Synology has earned several recognitions for its products, including the PC Mag Readers' Choice Award for four years in a row.
