Pioneer Japan recently sent out a press today, announcing two new portable Blu-ray Disc writers, the BDR-XD07 and BDR-XD07J-UHD. These lightweight, USB 3.0 equipped drives measure only 133 × 14.8 x 133 mm and weigh in at a mere 230g. The BDR-XD07 and BDR-XD07J-UHD are capable of 6x BD-R, 6x BD-R DL, 4x BD-R LTH, 2x BD-RE and 2x BD-RE DL writing speeds and a maximum BD-ROM read speed of 6x. They also writes to triple- (100GB) and quad-layer (128GB) BD-R media at 4x and triple-layer (100GB) BD-RE media at 2x.
What makes the BDR-XD07 and BDR-XD07J-UHD truly special is their ability to connect to an Android phone. Using the included USB-C conversion cable and Pioneer's Stellanova player app, users can import and play music CD's without the need for a PC. The two drives also ship with software from CyberLink and are equipped with Pioneer's PureRead3+ technology, which greatly improves the reading performance of scratched and dirty discs. The BDR-XD07J-UHD ups the ante even further with its ability to play back Ultra HD Blu-ray content at 4K resolutions.
The BDR-XD07 and BDR-XD07J-UHD are expected to hit stores in early December and are priced at 13,500 Yen ($121US) and 17,000 Yen ($153US), respectively.
