CyberLink Corp. is pleased to announce support in PowerDVD for full-quality stereoscopic 3D video on AMD Radeon™ HD 6800 series graphics.
On systems with the updated version of PowerDVD combined with the new AMD Radeon HD 6800 series graphics, consumers can enjoy full-quality Blu-ray 3D disc playback on the latest 3D televisions, through an HDMI 1.4a connection. Home theater enthusiasts are able to stream full multi-channel Blu-ray audio through the same HDMI connection to their compatible Audio/Video Receiver. PowerDVD takes full advantage of the Unified Video Decoder feature of AMD Radeon HD 6800 series graphics, delivering outstanding video quality even when decoding Blu-ray 3D MVC stereoscopic video at up to 60 megabits per second.

Buffalo Japan has announced a pair of BDXL compatible Blu-ray Disc writers based on what appears to be the Pioneer BDR-206MBK. The internal BRXL-6FBS-BK and external BRXL-6U2 are capable of 6x BD-R, 6x BD-R DL, 6x BD-R LTH, 2x BD-RE and 2x BD-RE DL writing speeds and a maximum BD-ROM read speed of 6x. On top of that, the two drives can write to triple- (100GB) and quad-layer (128GB) BD-R media at 6x and triple-layer (100GB) BD-RE discs at 2x.
No word yet on when the BRXL-6FBS-BK and BRXL-6U2 will ship or how much they will be. Buffalo will be revealing this information at a later date.

The Torqx TRB series of SSD offer improved system responsiveness with quicker boot times and shorter application loading times over traditional hard disk drive storage solutions.
Patriot’s Torqx TRB series, available in 32GB and 64GB capacities, is designed around the latest generation controller from JMicron: JMF616. With a controller level cache of 64MB DDR2, the Torqx TRB series provide stutter-free performance and offer speeds of up to 260MB/s Read and up to 115MB/s Write. To maintain performance integrity over the life of the drive, the Torqx TRB series SSDs include native support for the TRIM command in Microsoft Windows® 7.

Pioneer Japan sent out a press release this morning, announcing the world's first BDXL compatible Blu-ray Disc drive for the PC. Along with the ability to playback BDXL discs, the BDR-206MBK can write to triple- (100GB) and quad-layer (128GB) BD-R media at 6x and triple-layer (100GB) BD-RE media at 2x. The drive is also capable of 6x BD-R, 6x BD-R DL, 6x BD-R LTH, 2x BD-RE and 2x BD-RE DL writing speeds and includes features like Pioneer's PowerRead and PureRead2 technologies. Pioneer rounds all this out with a software bundle from CyberLink that supports BDXL recording as well as Blu-ray 3D playback.
The BDR-206MBK is scheduled to ship in mid November and is expected to retail for about 30,000 Yen ($372US).

Walgreens customers now have a convenient, affordable way to recover deleted or corrupted digital photos thought to be gone forever. The new Media Recovery Service now available at more than 7,500 Walgreens Photo Centers nationwide offers customers professional retrieval of lost images and other files from memory cards or USB drives.
With more consumers than ever storing and sharing photos digitally, treasured memories can be left vulnerable to mishaps such as a defective or damaged camera, accidental deletion, memory card or USB drive corruption, accidental formatting or file transfer errors. Though these situations can render images inaccessible, in many cases files are actually still retrievable from fixed memory space on the storage media.
