“Most computers these days do not come with a Blu-ray writer or in the case of the many new laptops and tablets, no optical drive at all. The USB 3.0 External BDXL writer, using the Pioneer BDR-206MBK drive from Vinpower Digital allows everyone the opportunity to burn, view, and share content stored on all forms of optical discs, such as CD’s, DVD’s, or Blu-ray discs including the BDXL media, which is a quad layer BD-R disc and holds 128GB per disc, proclaims Calvin Chang, C.E.O of Vinpower Digital. Best of all, because it uses a USB 3.0 connection, the transfer rate is considerably faster, making for even greater convenience and reliability.”

Active Media Products, a leading manufacturer of DOMs and small form factor SSDs, announced that two of their low-profile 7-pin SATA DOM (Disk on Module) drive types now feature a write enable/write protect switch, which is useful in many embedded applications to prevent inadvertent deletion of files.

Most embedded computers are optimized to run a single application reliably year after year. Once deployed they are usually expected to operate continuously, maintenance free. DOMs are perfect for such applications because they are very reliable and have outstanding endurance, with a MTBF up to two million hours. The write protection switch improves reliability by allowing embedded system makers to write protect the drive after loading the OS and applications onto it. Write protection adds an extra level of security against viruses, file corruption, or inadvertent file deletion which could cause a failure of the embedded system. This improves field reliability of embedded computers and helps keep maintenance costs to a minimum.

OCZ Technology Group, Inc.,a leading provider of high-performance solid-state drives (SSDs) for computing devices and systems, today announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Indilinx Co., Ltd, a privately held fabless provider of flash controller silicon and software for SSDs.

Indilinx is headquartered in South Korea and currently sells its line of flash controllers to SSD manufacturers and Tier One OEMs for use in a broad array of products addressing multiple markets, including embedded and industrial as well as laptops and PCs. Indilinx controllers have been deployed within OCZ's SSD products since December 2008, and are currently featured in the Z-Drive series of PCIe-based SSDs. Indilinx's technology is expected to enable OCZ to expand its presence into the embedded, hybrid storage, and industrial markets.

OCZ will gain substantial intellectual property from Indilinx including approximately 20 patents and patent applications related exclusively to the business as part of the transaction. For example, the acquisition is expected to extend OCZ's capabilities with advanced controller technology including Tinkerbell™, a high performance eMMC 4.4 x controller that replaces SSDs in consumer electronic devices such as smartphones, tablet PCs, GPS units, and netbooks. Tinkerbell improves the user experience in consumer mobile devices for applications such as internet browsing, gaming, social networking applications, emails, and multimedia play.

Enterprise storage capacity keeps growing up and performance of it is demanded to be faster. One key stimulation is cloud computing. It comes with an advantage for SSD booming up. In order to provide better solution to replace traditional HDD, there are numerous challenges for SSD venders to overcome.

innodisk e-class ssd series.jpg

InnoDisk, as a leading industrial storage solution vendor, has just launched E-Class SSD Series, E-Class SAS SSD and E-Class SATA SSD. E-Class SSD is developed for enterprise computing application and is designed within eMLC (enterprise NAND flash). The most critical difference between eMLC, MLC and SLC is the program/erase cycle. SLC provides 100,000 cycles and MLC provides 3,000 to 5,000 cycles, while that of eMLC (or Enterprise MLC) can reach up to 30,000. 10 times better write endurance, but little higher price than MLC, this makes eMLC more attractive and more value-added.
