Imagine that all of your irreplaceable photos, home movies, address books, music collections and documents suddenly disappeared. Maybe it was a spilled drink, a theft or a natural disaster, but whatever the cause, the digital content stored on your local computer is gone forever. Unfortunately, accidents like this happen. According to a recent poll sponsored by Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST) and conducted online by Harris Interactive, almost half of U.S adults who have digital data (45%) have lost photos, music, videos or documents, stored on a laptop or computer due to a virus, hardware or software malfunction or for another reason.
To create awareness and offer new ways to protect your content, Hitachi GST today announced HitachiBackup.com, a simple and easy-to-use cloud storage service providing anywhere, anytime access to your digital content. And, best of all, the first 3 gigabytes (3GB) of online storage are free.
When using Hitachi’s cloud storage service, your most important or cherished content is stored on secure online servers for accessing and sharing files from any web browser, tablet or smartphone – even from an Apple® iPhone® and iPad® app. All content is stored in its natural format (no proprietary formatting), so files are easy to view, download and share from any web browser, anywhere. You can even share your online content with others by sending a web link. Backups can be performed continuously or as scheduled at a specific time in the day that’s convenient for you.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a world leader in digital consumer electronics and information technology, today announced its 500 gigabyte per platter, one terabyte internal hard disk drive, Spinpoint M8 for use in mobile computing applications such as notebooks.
Samsung's Spinpoint M8, which consists of two 500 gigabyte platters, provides users with one terabyte storage space. The form factor support the 9.5mm height to comfortably fit in mobile computing applications.
The high density was achieved by utilizing advanced format technology (AFT), which raises the data storage density per unit area, enabling efficient and convenient data storage. A reduced number of components such as disks and heads also contribute to approximately seven percent increase in operation speeds and eight percent decline in power demand.
As portable devices become all the rage, compactness and thin profile have gone mainstream. Apacer —the global leading memory manufacturer— stays ahead of the market by introducing today two industrial SSDs (solid state disks) targeting industrial tablet PCs and rugged mobile devices. The new offerings include the 2.5-inch SAFD 25M3 and the 1.8-inch SAFD 18S3, both of which are storage solutions boasting thin profile as well as high speed.
The two next-generation ultra-slim SATA modular SSDs deliver high read/write speed of up to 115/90 MB/sec in half the size of typical 2.5-inch and 1.8-inch ones. Due to noiseless, shock-resistant and power-saving features, they not only meet customer demand for portable devices perfectly but also offer mobility and reliability for industrial tablet PCs and rugged mobile devices.
Mushkin, Inc., a global leader in high-performance computer products, today announced "Chronos", a new solid state drive series based on the SandForce SF-2281 processor. This series will be Mushkin's first utilizing the SATA Revision 3.0 protocol, providing 6 gigabits per second of bandwidth. The Chronos Series is comprised of two types of products: "Chronos" and "Chronos Deluxe". Chronos Deluxe SSDs utilize high-speed NAND flash memory and are ideal for enthusiasts or those in audio/video production who require the greatest possible bandwidth. Chronos SSDs offer asynchronous flash memory and provide users with eye-opening SSD speed and functionality at a value-oriented price.
"This new series of SSDs is the latest in Mushkin's long history of solid state storage products. This is an area in which we have made great strides and our Chronos SSD line will continue this tradition. Users who are ready for SATA 6 Gb/s now, or are planning to upgrade down the road, will not find a better drive in terms of performance and price." – Brian Flood, Mushkin director of product development.
SandForce, Inc., developer of the controller used in all Chronos SSDs, states the following: "SandForce is pleased that Mushkin has chosen to introduce their next generation SSDs with the latest SandForce SSD Processors," said Jeremy Werner, director of marketing at SandForce. Cooling expert Scythe is hereby announcing a smaller version of the Himuro HDD Cooler. New Himuro Mini is designed to cool and silence 2.5 inch Hard Drives. Users are able to install standard 2.5" Hard Drives with a thickness of up to 13 millimeter. Alike the former announced Himuro HDD Cooler, this smaller version is manufactured using high quality aluminum which is forming a chassis thickness of around 2 mm. This results in an overall product weight of 280 gram.
Himuro Mini is based on a design of two separate aluminum shells which are covering the Hard Drive and are fixed by screws. In order to reduce vibrations and noise coming from the HDD, thermal compound pads are included and vary depending on HDD thickness. Furthermore all inner sides are covered by thermal compound pads to achieve effective heat transfer to the fin structure on the outside of Himuro Mini chassis.

Verbatim’s new range of 2.5’’ SATA II SSDs (Solid State Drive) are an ideal hard drive replacement storage solution for notebook and desktop PCs. They provide extraordinary data transfer rates up to 250MB/sec READ and 220MB/sec WRITE speed, faster system boot up, improved system responsiveness and battery life as well as increased shock resistance over HDD equipped systems. The SATA II SSDs include a 3.5’’ bay adapter and a power cable for optional desktop installations. Available now, they can be purchased from specialised shops and Value Added Ressellers (VARs) for 129€ (64GB), 238€ (128GB) or 470€ (256GB) respectively (RRP).
The advantages of SSDs have been well documented: They use semi-conductor flash memory chips to store data so, unlike Hard Disk Drives, have no moving parts. This makes them more mechanically stable and far less prone to failure. Additionally they make no noise and use very little energy. The SATA II SSD is shock and vibration resistant making it more durable in harsher environments, and offers faster system performance than a standard hard drive.
