LSI Corporation today announced several demonstrations of its award-winning SandForce® SF-2000 Flash Storage Processors (FSPs) using Toshiba 19nm and Intel 20nm NAND flash memory, the most advanced flash memory technology currently available for solid state drive (SSD) applications. Interactive demonstrations can be seen at the Computex Taipei 2012 exposition taking place this week in Taipei, Taiwan.

LSI SandForce FSPs are designed to provide best-in-class performance, reliability, endurance and power efficiency for NAND flash-based SSDs. With proven products available today, LSI offers SSD manufacturers a time-to-market advantage in building more affordable SSDs, helping to accelerate broad adoption of flash storage for cloud computing, enterprise and client applications. Shipments of SSDs in client and enterprise markets are expected to exceed 100 million units in 2015, representing a 56 percent growth rate over 2011 shipments.

"SSD users want to benefit from the significant cost advantages of the leading flash processes, but most SSD controllers can't support the complexities of the most advanced chips," said Jim Handy, SSD analyst for Objective Analysis. "By supporting today's smallest NAND processes, LSI provides OEMs and end users access to the most cost-effective deployment of flash memory in primary and I/O-intensive data storage workloads across cloud-computing, enterprise and client applications."

sandisk_inand_extreme.pngSanDisk Corporation, a global leader in flash memory storage solutions, today announced it is using the world's most advanced semiconductor manufacturing process to produce SanDisk's highest performing embedded memory products.

iNAND Extreme™ is now being built on SanDisk's 19 nanometer (nm) process technology to enable the large-capacity, high-performance embedded NAND flash memory products that are ideally suited for high-end tablets and smartphones. Products running the Android operating system as well as the upcoming Microsoft Windows® RT version of the Windows® 8 operating system can benefit from iNAND Extreme capacity, performance and small size.

iNAND Extreme embedded flash memory can significantly improve performance for multitasking, web browsing, file transfer and image capture performance to produce a more enjoyable experience for smartphone and tablet users. iNAND Extreme comes in capacities ranging from 16GB to 128GB. 128GB of memory is enough to store several HD movies and thousands of songs and photos.

At 19nm, the manufacturing technology used to build circuitry in the iNAND Extreme is incredibly small. For comparative purposes, the width of a sheet of paper is about 0.1mm or about 100,000nm, meaning that more than 5000 objects 19nm in size could fit across the edge of a sheet of paper.

NTI Corporation today announced Echo 3, the latest version of our robust cloning software that delivers the ability to easily clone a computer's older storage drive to a new replacement drive. Echo's easy-to-use design, along with its advanced cloning features, is now enhanced by the addition of two new handy features: One-to-One Cloning and User Defined Cloning.

nti_echo_3_main_gui.jpg

"In addition to Echo's already rich feature set, we added new cloning options into Echo 3 which allows users to clone the way they want," said Bill Yao, CEO of NTI Corporation. "The users are now able to manually adjust the partition sizes on the replacement drive to fit their free space requirement for each partition."

One-to-One Cloning will retain the original hard drive's partition structure and size when cloning to a replacement drive. With this cloning method if the new drive is larger than the original drive the unused space on the new drive will be left as unallocated free space.

The THNSNF series employs Toggle MLC (multi-level cell) NAND flash, which delivers significantly faster performance than competing SSDs using synchronous or asynchronous NAND flash. Clocking in at around twice the speed of Toshiba’s HG3 series SSDs, the THNSNF series will be available in four capacities (64, 128, 256, and 512 GB) and in three form factors:

  • THNSNFxxxGBSS - 9.5 mm height, SATA 6Gb/s
  • THNSNFxxxGCSS -7.0 mm height, SATA 6Gb/s
  • THNSNFxxxGMCS - mSATATM, SATA 6Gb/s
