Synology today announced the new DiskStation DS415+, a powerful 4-bay NAS server designed to centralize data storage, backup, and file sharing for small and medium-sized businesses, as well as enthusiast home users.
DS415+ features an Intel Atom 2.4Ghz quad-core processor with an AES-NI hardware encryption engine, a floating-point unit, as well as 2GB DDR3 RAM. The four drive bays accommodate huge amounts of storage capacity, while the USB 3.0, USB 2.0, and eSATA ports allow users to connect and access various external storage devices. Dual LAN ports support failover and link aggregation, thus improving resiliency and potential throughput.
Synology today unveiled the beta release of DiskStation Manager (DSM) 5.1, the latest iteration of its award-wining operating system for NAS servers.
“Storage technologies are evolving fast and so is DSM. Version 5.1 boasts a significant amount of new features revolving around three critical concepts: integrating private cloud, broadening sharing possibilities, and enhancing data safety,” said Alex Wang, CEO of Synology Inc.
DSM 5.1 delivers many major updates, including:
Protect data with versatile backup and security tools: LUN snapshot is now schedulable and LUN backup performance is 169% faster through network. More packages can be completely backed up. As for system protection, the new Security Advisor scans the system and detects potential vulnerabilities, such as weak passwords, malware, misconfigured services, and pending updates. Packages can now be digitally signed to avoid using tampered executables, while AppArmor enforces stricter file access permissions for programs in DSM. Service-interface binding allows users to assign specific services to dedicated network interfaces for extra security.
Super Talent Technology, a leading manufacturer of NAND Flash storage solutions, updates its 7-pin SATA FDM with the 7-pin SATA SJ1.
The very popular 7-pin SATA FDM is now available in a SATA III version which allows for read speeds of up to 300 MB/s and write speeds of up to 100 MB/s.
These modules mount directly onto a mainboard and are perfect for maximizing performance of embedded computing applications. The small form factor along with a left or right facing version allows for space saving solutions where component placement is very important.
