QNAP Systems, Inc., a leading computing, networking and storage solution innovator, today officially released QTS 4.4.1. In addition to integrating Linux Kernel 4.14 LTS to support next-generation hardware platforms, QNAP is advancing NAS usability by incorporating highly-anticipated services, including a cloud storage gateway that makes hybrid cloud storage and applications easier, source-based deduplication to optimize backup and recovery efficiency, a Fibre Channel SAN solution, and much more.

Engineers at Innodisk, using the latest 3D NAND vertical architecture technology, have delivered stellar performance and blistering speeds in the latest iteration of the company’s new 3D NAND TLC SSD range. The Innodisk 3TS5-P SSD series complies with JESD219 standards complementing endurance workloads at enterprise level in situations where data compression or reduction is carried out for encryption purposes but doesn’t distort the normal internal workings of the SSD.
The new 3D NAND TLC SSD series handles increased data storage demands in varied form-factors while maintaining read/write speeds for endurance and is designed for heavy workload applications. This offers the potential of higher capacity within a smaller physical space thus lowering the mechanical interference and improving the airflow inside the system chassis, while also improving electrical use to reduce power consumption, boosting power consumption, and providing higher data write performance, as well as built-in hardware-based AES for data security.
Capable of being placed within the 2.5” SSD and M.2 form factors, it delivers data throughput with better latency of I/O operations and less total energy consumption. This provides improved power for day-to-day usage and works well with sequential writes. Average read and write latencies are reduced on a steadier 1TB drive thus when combined with heavy application use, the Innodisk brings high and stable performance for application launch and file load times.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world leader in advanced semiconductor technology, today announced development of the first standards-based prototype of a new type of SSD that features extensive scalability, unmatched durability and CPU-relieving functionality. Samsung’s advanced KV SSD prototype moves the storage workload from today’s server CPUs into the SSD without the need for any supportive device, which will lead to greater storage-related software and hardware efficiency.

Samsung’s KV SSD prototype is based on a new open standard for a Key Value Application Programming Interface (KV API) that was recently approved by SNIA. Last month, the SNIA’s KV API standard was selected as a Best of Show Industry Standards winner in the Most Innovative Flash Memory Technology Awards, at the 2019 Flash Memory Summit.

Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH announces the addition of new 16TB helium-sealed models to both the N300 NAS Hard Drive and X300 Performance Hard Drive Series. The 16TB models offer 14% more capacity than 14TB models. The 16TB models also double the buffer size of the 14TB models, increasing from 256MiB to 512MiB.
The 16TB N300 and X300 Series utilize a 9-disk helium-sealed design, delivering increased storage density with a lower hard drive operating power profile. Toshiba Group’s laser welding technology and case design keep the helium securely sealed inside the industry-standard 3.5-inch drive enclosure.
