Strontium Technology has announced a new series of high-performance solid state drives called HAWK solid state drives. These are Hynix-made solid state drives with Strontium branding and after sales support. They are based on SandForce’s SF-2281 controller and SK Hynix flash.

Memory and storage specialist Integral has launched Crypto SSD, its first range of solid-state drives (SSDs) to feature military-level, AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) 256-bit hardware encryption. As well as the secure, convenient and low-cost protection of sensitive data, the new drives offer all the benefits of solid-state storage. This includes low-power operation, silent running, rapid boot time and, as there are no moving parts, higher reliability and enhanced resistance to shock and vibration.
Protecting sensitive data through encryption is becoming a mandatory requirement for a wide range of organisations as bodies such as the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) impose increasingly severe penalties for data protection breaches resulting from lost and stolen computers. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world leader in advanced memory technology, today announced that it has now begun volume production of an ultra-fast embedded memory for smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices in 16-, 32- and 64-gigabyte (GB) densities.
The new Samsung eMMC (embedded multimedia card) Pro Class 1500 delivers the industry’s fastest speeds for an embedded memory device, reading data sequentially at up to 140 megabytes per second (MB/s) and writing it at up to 50 MB/s. For random reading and writing, it can process up to 3500/1500 IOPS (inputs and outputs per second), four times the speed of previous eMMC solutions.
