Mavell Announces 88SS9187 SATA 6 Gb/s SSD Controller

mavell_88ss9187_controller.pngMarvell today announced mass deployment of the Marvell 88SS9187 SATA controller fueled by high performance embedded processor technology. The 88SS9187 features a 6 gigabit-per-second (Gb/s) SATA Revision 3.1 compliant host interface optimized for the fast-growing solid state drive (SSD) sector, offering many game changing benefits to the consumer, mobile and enterprise markets. A significant number of high-profile SSD manufacturers are set to deploy Marvell’s newest solution immediately, with additional partners expected to integrate 88SS9187 implementations later this year.

Marvell’s newest SSD controller boasts an open, world-class architecture that supports industry-standard, high-speed NAND Flash interface up to 200MB/s per channel. The 88SS9187 also offers a groundbreaking correction capability thanks to its high performance ECC engine with Adaptive Read and Write Scheme and on-chip RAID functionality to allow use of the latest generation of NAND Flash devices in the fast-growing SSD markets.

Toshiba Launches High Performance EXCERIA SD Memory Cards

Toshiba Corporation today announced the launch of a new line of high performance SDXC and SDHC memory cards under a new brand name - EXCERIA. The new line of SD memory cards offers the highest performance levels available.

EXCERIA, named to reflect a combination of "excellent" and "experience", offers cards fully compliant with the SD Memory Card Standard Ver.3.0 UHS-I, and includes versions offering the world's fastest data transfer speed for an SD memory card.

The SD memory card has emerged as the data storage card of choice in all kinds of personal digital equipment. This success reflects size, ease of use and flexibility and, most of all, performance advances that support such functionalities such as recording HD movies, continuous image shooting with digital cameras, and short transfer times when copying data to other devices.

Samsung SSD 830 Series 128GB Solid State Drive

CDRLabs has taken a long overdue look at Samsung's 128GB SSD 830 Series solid state drive. Designed and built completely in-house, the SSD 830 is powered by Samsung's own triple-core MCX controller and features a SATA 6GB/s interface as well as wear-leveling and garbage collection algorithms for sustained performance and reliability. Synology Launches Budget-Friendly DiskStation DS112j NAS Server

Synology Inc. today launched DiskStation DS112j, the most economical, power-saying and quiet 1-bay NAS server designed to serve as users’ private cloud and multimedia center.

“Synology DS112j comes at an entry-level price point, but makes no compromise in the richness of features offered by Synology,” said Darren Lin, a product manager of Synology Inc. “It is a gateway to Synology’s unique cloud services and applications, making it easy for users to keep their data in sync across all their PC, mobile devices and DS112j, and carry terabytes of multimedia files anywhere,” Lin added.

With a brand-new enclosure design, the DS112j is quieter and cooler. Its low-rotation 60mm fan and ventilation openings facilitate heat dispassion and minimize its noise level to 17.1dB(A), quieter even than a library. The DS112j features a new mechanical design to place the hard drive optimally, creating a smooth path for air to flow to keep the system running cooler.

Buffalo Unveils World's Smallest And Lightest Portable BDXL Compatible Blu-ray Disc Writer

Buffalo Japan has definitely been on a roll lately. The company not only announced one of the industry's first 14x Blu-ray Disc writers, they've now unveiled what they claim to be the world's smallest and lightest portable Blu-ray Disc writer. The BRXL-CSPI6U2-BK weighs in at a mere 240g and, thanks to a unique clamshell design, measures only 133 × 133 × 14.8 mm. This USB powered drive is capable of 6x BD-R, 6x BD-R DL, 4x BD-R LTH, 2x BD-RE and 2x BD-RE DL writing speeds and a maximum BD-ROM read speed of 6x. The BRXL-CSPI6U2-BK also writes to triple- (100GB) and quad-layer (128GB) BD-R media at 6x and triple-layer (100GB) BD-RE media at 2x.

The BRXL-CSPI6U2-BK comes with a software bundle from CyberLink that supports BDXL recording as well as Blu-ray 3D playback. it also includes DiXiM BD Burner 2011 from DigiOn, which lets you burn copy-protected digtal content directly from DTCP-IP enabled DLNA devices on your home network. The BRXL-CSPI6U2-BK is scheduled to ship at the end of March and is expected to retail for about 21,000 Yen ($257US).
