Freecom today launched the ‘Dual Drive Network Center’, a simple to use network storage center featuring two separate, removable hard drives that give users the option to either store up to 4TB of data or create a safe backup of their files on the second drive. The Dual Drive Network Center reliably stores data from an entire network in one central location, making it easy for multiple users to download and stream movies and TV programmes as well as store and access their music collection and photos.
Many people rely on hard drives to store all kinds of multimedia content, but if their drive crashes their valuable information and memories can be lost forever. With the Dual Drive Network Center, home users can protect against this danger by programming it so that one drive automatically makes an exact copy of the other, giving them the peace of mind that comes from knowing everything is safely backed up.

The first symbol identifies products with bus-interface speeds up to 104 Megabytes per second for greater device performance. The second symbol identifies SD memory cards and products with a performance option allowing real-time video recording.
The sheer variety of high-performing, feature-rich devices has dictated the need for a wide variety of SD memory card speeds and capacities to maximize device performance and meet consumer expectations. With more than 2.5 billion SD memory cards in the market today, the new high-speed performance capabilities will co-exist with earlier SD memory cards still used by consumers, as those cards are still interoperable with the newest host devices.

Intel Corporation announced today that its award-winning Intel® Solid-State Drives (SSDs) are now available in 800 Best Buy stores across the country and on BestBuy.com.
SSDs can replace or complement a traditional hard drive in a notebook or desktop PC and deliver noticeably faster computer performance when booting up, opening files and running software applications. With no moving parts, these SSDs deliver greater reliability and consume less power than conventional hard disk drives (HDDs).
During the past decade, HDD speed has only improved 1.3 times, while Intel’s processor speeds have improved more than 200 times. This has caused a system bottleneck that SSDs can help solve. HDDs use a mechanical arm and spinning platter, which can sometimes result in a hard disk crash. An SSD uses flash memory chips and is 100 percent solid state with no moving parts. This makes an SSD extremely rugged, reliable and energy efficient. The biggest benefit is in performance, where an Intel SSD delivers up to 56 percent improvement in system responsiveness for gamers, multimedia enthusiasts or anyone desiring to get more performance out of their new or existing notebook or desktop computer.
Western Digital today introduced its new 1 TB My Book® AV DVR expander, allowing customers to instantly and seamlessly expand their DVR recording capacity by simply attaching the My Book AV DVR expander.
TiVo Verified™ compatible with TiVo® Series3™ and TiVo HD DVRs, the new My Book AV DVR expander is capable of storing up to 120 hours of high-definition (HD) television programming. The drive, which offers USB and eSATA connections, has also been tested and is compatible with Dish Network® and DirecTV® DVRs. WD is working with other major satellite, cable and telecom companies to integrate its DVR expander technology into set-top boxes around the world.
DVRs have become an indispensable technology for consumers around the world by helping users time-shift their TV and recommend new shows. According to Parks Associates, 40 percent of U.S. broadband households and 38 percent of Western European broadband households have a DVR (Parks Associates: The Consumer Perspective 2009). HD programs take several times more storage space than standard definition programs, requiring users to constantly delete old shows to make more room for new ones. Shortage of storage also prevents the DVRs recommendation engine from suggesting new shows, limiting the use of a favorite consumer feature. WD's My Book AV DVR expander addresses these issues by providing users with up to 120 additional hours of HD storage for their TiVo, DirecTV, Dish Network and other compatible DVRs.
