OCZ Technology Group, Inc., a leading provider of high-performance solid-state drives (SSDs) for computing devices and systems, today announced the general availability of the next release of its popular VXL Cache and Virtualization Software.  VXL 1.3 has evolved its synchronous data mirroring capabilities and automatic server failover mechanisms to enable ‘SAN-less,’ highly available, fault tolerant environments based entirely on virtualized host flash.  The ability to provide uninterrupted service for business-critical applications even during severe system failures is a requirement for IT managers of any sized data center, and ideally suited for virtualized database deployments, email servers, or cloud computing applications.

Another innovation in this new version of VXL allows IT managers to pre-load the cache with critical data at pre-determined schedules to ensure that important data is available on SSD flash at the precise time it is required by the application.  This advancement is particularly well suited for business intelligence and data analysis applications, and in particular, for columnar database deployments where the periodic collection of data to a distributed flash cache enables real-time online analysis.  Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) applications benefit as well with the ability to alleviate boot storms or expected peak usage at specific times.

Among many varieties of memory devices, CF (CompactFlash) cards are very popular for embedded devices in such fields as medical, military, gaming, automotive and POS applications to date due to their cost effectiveness, reliability and stability. The new series of sixth-generation CF memory cards launched by Apacer in 2013 significantly boosts the transmission efficiency up to 115/80MB/second, realizing the speed of SATA interface when compared with its predecessors. The new series also considerably expands its capacity up to 128GB, making it the best choice for industrial computerand automatic storage.

This new series of CF memory cards takes built-in value-added functions and other features of SLC & MLC as its main axis, and adopts the standard 50-pin connector. The data transfer mode is up to PIO-6, Multi-Word DMA-4 and Ultra DMA-6, all of which are compliant with the CFA 6.0 specifications. Thanks to its PCMCIA-ATA function and compatibility that support 5V or 3.3V power supply, the sixth-generation CF memory cards provide superb convenience in terms of matching with systems and expansion of capacity.

Nowadays, new products in the SSD market have mostly been upgraded to the more efficient and high-speed SATA interface solid-state drive. However, the majority of industrial computers (IPC) are still using the PATA interface (or IDE interface), which are now facing certain problems -- malfunctioning and bad tracks are beginning to emerge in the older technology and facilities. To solve the problem, one of the most viable upgrade options at this stage in terms of data security and cost effectiveness would be the PATA interface solid-state drive with built-in security functions.

In response to customer needs, Apacer launched this value-added PATA SSDs with Data Security benefit. These products come in two specifications - 2.5-inch, 44 pin AFD 257 and 1.8-inch 40 pin AFD 187. Both models come with three built-in data security functions - Full Erase, Destroy, and Write Protect to provide advanced and upgraded data security advantages.

greenliant_nandrive_temp.jpgGreenliant Systems, a leader in energy-efficient, highly secure and reliable solid state storage products, has begun volume production of its industrial temperature SATA and PATA interface NANDrive embedded solid state drives (SSDs) using 2-bits-per-cell (MLC) NAND flash memory. Overcoming the temperature sensitivity risk of MLC NAND, industrial temperature (I-temp) SATA and PATA NANDrive operate between -40 and +85 degrees Celsius.

Compared to significantly more expensive 1-bit-per-cell (SLC) NAND-based SSDs, I-temp MLC NANDrive offers cost-effective, ball grid array (BGA) products that meet quality and reliability requirements—such as avoiding uncorrectable errors and data retention issues—when the MLC NAND is operating at extremely low and high temperatures. NANDrive combines Greenliant’s internally developed NAND controller with NAND flash die for a fully integrated SSD in a multi-chip package.
