CDRLabs has taken an in depth look at Lite-On's new 20x "Super AllWrite" drive, the Lite-On LH-20A1H. This highly anticipated drive features some of the fastest reading and writing speeds available. The LH-20A1H is capable of 20x DVD±R, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW, 8x DVD±R DL and 12x DVD-RAM writing speeds and has a maximum DVD read speed of 16x. The drive also has many of the features we've come to expect from Lite-On, along with more advanced ones like SmartWrite. To top it all off, the LH-20A1H includes support for HP's LightScribe Direct Disc Labeling system.

Featuring some of the fastest reading and writing speeds available, the drive is capable of 18x DVD±R, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW and 8x DVD±R DL writing speeds and has a maximum DVD read speed of 16x. Staying true to the "Super-Multi" specifications, the GSA-H22N can also read and write to DVD-RAM media at 12x. LG's new drive also includes features like 48x CD reading and writing speeds, 32x rewriting speeds, Super Link buffer underrun protection and an impressive software bundle from Nero and CyberLink.

CDRLabs kicks off the week with an in depth look at Sony's new Blu-ray Disc writer, the BWU-100A. Offering support for both single and dual layer BD media, the BWU-100A has the ability to store up to 50GB of data or four hours worth of HD video onto a single disc. Sony's new drive is also capable of playing commercial Blu-ray Disc movies and can read and write to all major CD and DVD formats, including DVD-RAM.

While one of the biggest promoters of the Blu-ray Disc format, Sony hasn't abandoned the DVD quite yet. This fall they announced their 12th generation DVD writer, the DRU-830A. Based loosely on the Samsung SH-S182D, the drive is capable of 18x DVD±R, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW and 8x DVD±R DL writing speeds and has a maximum DVD read speed of 16x. One of the latest additions to ASUS's growing lineup of DVD writers is the DRW-1608P3S. Based on the Pioneer DVR-111, this new "Super-Multi" drive is capable of 16x DVD±R, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW, 8x DVD±R DL and 5x DVD-RAM writing speeds and has a maximum DVD read speed of 16x. The DRW-1608P3S also includes features like 40x CD reading and writing speeds, 32x rewriting speeds and support for technologies like FlextraLink and FlextraSpeed.

This spring, I-O DATA announced their first internal Blu-ray Disc writer, the BDR-AM2B/U. Based on the Panasonic SW-5582, this new drive supports both single and dual layer BD-R and BD-RE media, giving it the ability to store up to 50GB of data or four hours worth of HD video onto a single disc. The BDR-AM2B/U is also capable of playing commercial Blu-ray Disc movies and can read and write to all major CD and DVD formats, including DVD-RAM. To top it all off, I-O DATA has included a full featured software bundle from Ulead and InterVideo.

With the introduction of next generation formats like Blu-ray, Pioneer is leading the charge once again. Last winter, they announced one of the industry’s first Blu-ray Disc writers, the BDR-101A. Designed for professional users, the drive can store up to 25GB of data or more than two hours of HD video onto single layer BD-R (write-once) and BD-RE (rewritable) media. The BDR-101A can also be used to play Blu-ray Disc movie titles and is backwards compatible with standard DVD media, offering 8x DVD±R, 4x DVD±RW, 2.4x DVD+R DL and 2x DVD-R DL writing speeds and a maximum DVD read speed of 8x.
