Seagate Technology plc. today introduced SuperSpeed USB 3.0 to the award-winning Backup Plus storage for Mac. Currently available through Amazon.com and from Apple Stores in November, both Backup Plus Portable for Mac and Backup Plus Desktop for Mac drives will feature the new USB 3.0 interface, which is also compatible with earlier USB 2.0 ports. This new interface means faster transfer of data, so you can backup more quickly, up to 10x that of USB 2.0, via TimeMachine® or simply transferring a file from a computer to external storage.

Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. today unveiled the BDR-2208, the world’s first 15x internal Blu-ray burner and fastest drive on the market to date. The internal SATA drive can read and write to all BDXL disc formats, including BD-R and BD-RE triple-layer 100GB media and BD-R quad-layer 128GB media, as well as conventional recordable Blu-ray Disc (single-layer 25GB media and dual-layer 50GB media). Pioneer Japan sent out a press today, officially announcing its new 15x Blu-ray Disc writer, the BDR-S08J. This Windows 8 compatible drive is is capable of 15x BD-R, 14x BD-R DL, 8x BD-R LTH, 2x BD-RE and 2x BD-RE DL writing speeds and a maximum BD-ROM read speed of 12x. The BDR-S08J also writes to triple- (100GB) and quad-layer (128GB) BD-R media at 6x and triple-layer (100GB) BD-RE media at 2x.
The BDR-S08J includes features like Pioneer's PowerRead and PureRead3+ technologies as well as power-saving and silent modes. It also ships with authoring and playback software from CyberLink as well as DiXiM BD Burner 2013, which lets you burn copy-protected digtal content directly from DTCP-IP enabled DLNA devices on your home network.
The BDR-S08J is scheduled to ship in mid November and is expected to retail for about 23,000 Yen ($292US).

Aleratec today introduced the 1:11 HDD Copy Cruiser IDE/SATA hard drive duplicator. This tower disk duplicator and sanitizer is compatible with both IDE and SATA hard disk drives and has more than double the capacity of Aleratec’s popular 1:5 HDD Copy Cruiser IDE/SATA, giving users the ability to finish their large duplication or sanitization jobs even faster.
The 1:11 HDD Copy Cruiser IDE/SATA is a powerful, standalone hard disk drive duplicator. It can create up to 11 perfect hard drives clones simultaneously by performing a sector-by-sector copy from a single source hard disk to up to 11 target drives. This copy includes partition and boot sector information for a perfect clone. When a sector-level copy is not required, the 1:11 HDD Copy Cruiser IDE/SATA can also do file-level copies for supported file formats, which can save a significant amount of time.
It can also reliably wipe all traces of data from up to 12 hard disk drives at a time using Secure Erase, a National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) 800-88 approved method for clearing hard disks. This feature uses fast, secure algorithms created by the drive manufacturer and is built into most modern SATA hard drives as well as some IDE hard drives. If Secure Erase is not supported, the 1:11 HDD Copy Cruiser IDE/SATA can still sanitize drives with a choice of three comprehensive overwrite algorithms: a one-pass wipe, a three-pass wipe with verify, or a powerful seven-pass wipe which follows the Department of Defense 5220.22-M sanitization recommendation.
