Sonnet today introduced the Tango 3.0 PCIe, a combination USB 3.0 and FireWire 800 PCIe adapter card. The Tango card provides users with a simple way to add USB 3.0 and FireWire 800 connectivity to Mac Pro and Windows computers with PCIe slots, and to Thunderbolt-to-PCI Express expansion chassis. This Sonnet adapter can run bus-powered devices such as hard drives through each of its ports, and it is also backward-compatible with USB 2.0 and FireWire 400 devices.

USB 3.0, which offers a tenfold increase in data transfer speeds over USB 2.0, has become a standard interface on Mac systems and most Windows PCs, as well as external storage devices. The iconic, but now discontinued, Mac Pro tower never included native USB 3.0 ports, and many perfectly functional PCs were built with only USB 2.0 ports. Therefore, users wanting to take advantage of the new fast interface have to rely on third-party expansion cards. The Sonnet adapter provides four USB 3.0 ports: two external USB 3.0 ports and a 20-pin header for two internal USB 3.0 ports. The internal ports support panel-mount connector kits (sold separately).

FireWire 800 established its success as an interface for storage devices and professional audio equipment. Although included for years as a standard feature on most Mac computers, it has rarely been included in Windows PCs. The Tango 3.0 PCIe provides Windows PC and Mac Pro users alike a simple way to add three FireWire 800 ports to any compatible computer with an open PCIe slot.

nero_2014_platinum.pngNero 2014 is here. It brings some order into a world of multiple mobile devices, laptops, PCs, home networks and the cloud. Nero 2014 - the newest version of the market-leading media companion - is the ultimate in HD multimedia software, allowing users to manage, create, convert, play, and burn all their movies, music and photos across all their devices delivering the best entertainment experience at home or on the go.

In recent years we have witnessed an explosive growth in the use of tablets and smartphones, as well as streaming video and cloud-based services used for storage and sharing. Nonetheless, the PC is still the media backbone for home users, especially for creating, editing and managing their media. While Ultra HD starts to kick off, many users still prefer physical media such as Blu-ray and DVD. All the different devices, media sources and formats can make it hard for users to enjoy their media on the device of their choice.

“Photo, video and music content is at the heart of everybody’s day to day life,” says Jürgen Kurz, CEO at Nero. “We have listened carefully to what users want. The result is Nero 2014 – a great media companion and worry-free multimedia solution that really brings together all media on any device – quickly and effectively.”

Innodisk, a designer and manufacturer of SSDs for industrial applications, is pleased to announce the development of a new patented technology, Power Secure. Power Secure is Innodisk's advanced hardware and firmware-based power failure protection system, which helps ensure SSD data integrity after sudden power outages. An informative Innodisk white paper, “Data Integrity In the Event of Abnormal Power Failure in SSDs”, explains the technology behind Power Secure.

Solid-state drives (SSDs) are far more robust than traditional HDDs; they are faster, more durable, and have lower operating costs. However, all storage devices are vulnerable to potential data loss caused by a sudden shutdown due to external power failure. Now, Innodisk’s Power Secure offers a combined hardware and firmware power-down recovery system that significantly reduces the probability of data loss or corruption.

If a SSD read or write operation is interrupted due to an unexpected loss of power, there can be inconsistencies in the data; it may not load successfully, and an ECC (Error Correcting Code) failure can occur, leading to data loss. Power Secure's first line of defense against this issue is a low power detector on the SSD.

The included wireless dock can function as an 802.11a/b/g/n access point or be connected to via a router at speeds up to 300Mbps. Thanks to the dock's high-speed USB virtualization technology, users can play back movies or burn a disc from their Windows-based PC or tablet using the included CyberLink software. Mac support is also planned and will be added in the future through a free firmware update.
