Addonics Technologies today announced the Sapphire 5-slot CFast drive and the Sapphire CF, a family of four flash drive solutions, which are ideal for creating your own SSD (solid state drive) RAID array to improve storage performance.
The new line lowers power consumption and improves overall system reliability for application environments with frequent shocks and vibrations because SSDs have no moving parts unlike traditional hard drives.

Kingston Digital, Inc., the Flash memory affiliate of Kingston Technology Company, Inc., the independent world leader in memory products, today announced its fastest addition to the Secure Digital product line. The new SDHC/SDXC UHS-I Speed Class 3 (U3) card (Kingston part #: SDA3/xxGB) allows professionals and consumers to capture 4K and other Ultra-HD video resolutions. The new card is available in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB capacities.
The SD Association’s latest specification, UHS-I U3 (Ultra High-Speed Bus, Speed Class 3), guarantees performance of at least 30MB/s read and write, enough bandwidth to record and playback 4K video without interruption. Kingston’s SDHC/SDXC UHS-I Speed Class 3 card provides speeds of 90MB/s read and 80MB/s write, which is up to 9x faster (read) and up to 8x faster (write) than standard Class 10 SD cards. Along with the ultra-light BDR-XD05J, Pioneer Japan announced its new 16x Blu-ray Disc writer, the BDR-209JBK. This Windows 8.1 compatible drive is is capable of 16x BD-R, 14x BD-R DL, 8x BD-R LTH, 2x BD-RE and 2x BD-RE DL writing speeds and a maximum BD-ROM read speed of 12x. The BDR-209JBK also writes to triple-layer (100GB) BD-R media at 8x, quad-layer (128GB) BD-R media at 6x and triple-layer (100GB) BD-RE media at 2x.
The BDR-209JBK includes features like Pioneer's PureRead2 technology and a special power-saving mode. The drive also ships with authoring and playback software from CyberLink and is expected to cost 14,000 Yen ($136US) when it hits stores at the end of January.

ADATA Technology has announced the release of its proprietary software for monitoring the status and maintaining the performance of ADATA solid state drives. The new software, named ADATA SSD Toolbox, will enable users to quickly and conveniently configure, optimize, and monitor the overall health of their solid state drives.
ADATA SSD Toolbox allows for the monitoring of drive health and remaining life through Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.) attributes. It also lets the user keep track of the current operating temperature, capacity, and total space used. The drive utilities include SSD security erase, which wipes all data from the drive and restores the drive to its factory default, firmware update, and SSD Toolbox update. For achieving best performance with the drive and the operating system, the software supports both system (SSD) and OS optimization functions. Supported operating systems include Windows 7 (32 & 64-bit), Windows 8 (32 & 64-bit), and Windows 8.1 (32 & 64-bit) versions.

Pioneer Japan sent out a press today, announcing what it claims to be the world's lightest BDXL compatible Blu-ray Disc writer. The BDR-XD05J measures only 133 × 133 × 14.8 mm and weighs in at a mere 230g. This USB 3.0 equipped drive is capable of 6x BD-R, 6x BD-R DL, 6x BD-R LTH, 2x BD-RE and 2x BD-RE DL writing speeds and a maximum BD-ROM read speed of 6x. The BDR-XD05J also writes to triple- (100GB) and quad-layer (128GB) BD-R media at 4x and triple-layer (100GB) BD-RE media at 2x.
The BDR-XD05J includes features like Pioneer's PureRead2+ technology and an "advanced silent mode" for when playing movies and audio discs. The drive is also compatible with the company's new APS-WF01J wireless dock, which lets it be used with Windows-based tablets. The BDR-XD05J ships with authoring and playback software from CyberLink and is expected to hit stores in late January for about 10,000 Yen ($97US).
