Add a commentSanDisk Corporation, a global leader in flash storage solutions, today announced the availability of the SanDisk X300 SSD. The SanDisk X300 SSD leverages the latest advancements in X3 technology to deliver a great user experience with high-performance, while utilizing robust error-correction to increase reliability and provide peace of mind for today’s CIOs. SanDisk’s new client SSD also includes an improved SSD Dashboard, which provides visibility into the drive’s performance, security, and available firmware updates, in order to maintain peak performance at all times—an important feature for today’s mobile workforce.
“The SanDisk X300 SSD is our first X-series drive to incorporate the use of our nCache 2.0 tiered caching architecture and X3, three bit-per-cell technology, to deliver a highly optimized and reliable solution for both CIOs and their employees,” said Kevin Conley, senior vice president and general manager, client storage solutions at SanDisk. “This mainstream corporate drive not only provides the reliability and performance companies need today, but also helps CIOs reduce total cost of ownership and shorten the time to return on investment.”
The X300 utilizes SanDisk’s advanced 1Ynm X3 flash technology, and incorporates nCache 2.0 technology, a next generation tiered caching technology that combines SLC and X3/TLC flash blocks to improve endurance, increase efficiency, and boost performance in corporate workloads such as office productivity applications, media creation or financial transactions. To improve the reliability of the drive and maximize end-to-end data integrity, the X300 SSD also includes a robust error handling mechanism that utilizes XOR recovery technology to implement an extra layer of data protection.
Add a commentQNAP Systems, Inc. today announced the availability of QTS 4.1.1, the new Turbo NAS firmware that features whole-NAS encryption by volume-based technology to greatly ensure data security in response to increasing cloud security challenges.
As the fear of private data being leaked over the Internet is now a prime security concern, the protection provided by Network Attached Storage (NAS) has received great attention, especially for confidential business files and private photos/videos that require high security. However, the shared-folder-level encryption found in traditional NAS does not allow users to encrypt photos, music and videos stored in default shared folders, and therefore can lead to data being easily accessible if the NAS is stolen.
“QTS 4.1.1 ensures the security of data by including full volume encryption that can encrypt photos, music, videos, and documents in every shared folder of the Turbo NAS,” said Willy Kuo, product manager of QNAP, adding “QNAP strives to develop the most secure and convenient storage solution and by providing full volume encryption, we can ensure total data security. We strongly recommend that our users use full volume encryption to ensure that their data is completely protected.”
Add a commentThecus, the networked storage expert, announces the availability of free 3rd party software modules for Thecus NAS products, allowing Thecus NAS to also function as home automation servers.
The home automation modules developed in the Thecus community continue to extend Thecus NAS functionality beyond networked storage. With third party modules, users can configure their Thecus NAS to stream media, host websites, showcase photo galleries, and now even control their home.
As the 21st century progresses, the concept of an intelligent, energy-saving home is no longer a far off fantasy but entirely possible with the technology we have today. Intelligent climate control, appliances that monitor and work themselves, curtains that close and open depending on sunlight, and gardens that water themselves are just a few of the benefits that home automation can provide. Using smart appliances and a Thecus NAS with home automation modules like Domoticz, Homegenie or MisterHouse, homeowners can network intelligent appliances and sensors into an automated home system.
Add a commentQNAP Systems, Inc. today released a new version of QTS for its Turbo NAS lineup, fixing the GNU Bash Environment Variable Command Injection Vulnerability (CVE-2014-6271 and CVE-2014-7169), also known as “Shellshock,” that can allow attackers to gain remote control over UNIX/Linux-based systems. The Turbo NAS may also be affected under certain conditions.
QNAP’s security lab has verified the QTS version 4.1.1 Build 0927 and confirmed it has fixed the CVE-2014-6271 and CVE-2014-7169 vulnerability. Users are strongly advised to update their Turbo NAS units to this QTS version.
As the GNU Bash still have potential issues on CVE-2014-6277, which is not confirmed to be solved yet, QNAP will keep on watching the solution provided by GNU and release the corresponding hot fixes.
Add a commentSeagate Technology plc, a world leader in storage solutions, today took the wraps off the industry’s first dedicated surveillance hard disk drive (HDD) featuring Seagate Rescue services—the Seagate Surveillance HDD. Engineered specifically for surveillance and video analytics applications, the Surveillance HDD is a world-class drive that employs data recovery services designed to restore data from malice or accidental failure, keeping systems in the field longer and reducing post deployment expenses.
“Over 413 petabytes of data are produced in just one day by video surveillance cameras installed worldwide in 20131—that’s 150,000 petabytes of data every year, most of which are stored on high-capacity surveillance systems for archive or video analytics purposes,” said Scott Horn, Seagate vice president of marketing. “That data is invaluable to the user to either meet industry regulations or leverage for content analysis or security— so when data loss occurs it’s an expense to the customer. Seagate’s Surveillance HDD with Rescue services addresses this issue head on and alleviates these concerns.”
