During its annual press briefing at CEDIA Expo today, Sony Electronics unveiled a new reference standard 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player which will be shipping next spring. The new ES Series model (UBP-X1000ES) offers full Custom Installation (CI) compatibility and incorporates a number of features and technologies that will make it the centerpiece of the most advanced home audio-video systems.
According to Yukio Ishikawa, Director of Home Entertainment Systems for Sony Electronics, “The new UBP-X1000ES player has been long awaited by custom installers who desire a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player that provides a “one-stop” solution for their clients’ premium entertainment needs. QNAP Systems, Inc. today released an updated version of Qfinder Pro 2.1.2 for Mac. This version rectifies slow Samba file transfer in Mac OS X 10.11.5 (and newer), allowing Mac users to directly mount Samba shared folders with efficient high-speed data transfer.
“Mac OS X 10.11.5 sometimes caused Samba transfer speeds to drop. Toshiba Europe GmbH (TEG) Storage Peripherals Division has introduced new entry internal 2.5”/7mm Solid State Drives (SSDs) that allow users to quickly and easily upgrade storage capacity and system performance. Featuring advanced, high-performance 15nm flash memory technology, the SSD A100 drives reduce power consumption, improve system responsiveness, shorten boot times and operate silently compared to conventional HDDs.
Available in 240 GB and 120 GB capacities, the SSD A100 drives combine advanced 3-bit-per-cell 15nm flash memory with Toshiba controller and SLC (single-level cell) cache technology. The drives are ideal for personal or office users looking to upgrade their PCs to a more responsive, power-efficient, shock-resistant solid-state internal hard drive.
Toshiba’s SLC write cache advanced speed technology optimises processing speed to deliver random read and write performance of up to 87000 IOPS and 82000 IOPS respectively. Sequential read speeds are 550MB/s and sequential write speeds are up to 480MB/s. A backward-compatible SATA III interface is rated for maximum data transfer rates of 6.0Gbit/s.
The A100 SSDs offer support for native command queuing (NCQ), S.M.A.R.T. (self-monitoring analysis and reporting technology) and TRIM (requiring OS support). MTTF ratings for A100 models are 1,500,000 hours.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE) and Intel Corporation today announced that ULTRA, SPHE’s 4K movie streaming service, will debut on computers powered by 7th Gen Intel Core processors beginning Q1 in 2017.
Coinciding with the expanded availability of the service, ULTRA will add new features like 48 hour rentals and free 10 minute previews, allowing customers to experience a sample of any film on the service in full 4k resolution before buying.
With its new 7th Gen Intel Core processor, Intel is bringing 4K content to mainstream PC users. This latest processor sets a higher bar for richer experiences and incredible performance and responsiveness, with long battery life and true 4K entertainment. More than 100 stunning new devices powered by 7th Gen Intel Core will be available this holiday season, and some will be available as early as September.
