Synology Inc. announced the official release of Virtual Machine Manager. It provides the ability to install and run multiple virtual machines, including Windows, Linux, and Virtual DSM on Synology NAS. Hardware resources can be allocated more flexibly with Virtual Machine Manager. Virtual machines can even be moved without interruption to running hosts.

According to a 2016 study made by market authority Gartner, up to 80% of x86 server workloads have been virtualized. Virtual Machine Manager attracted more than 60,000 users during its 6-month beta program. The results also show that server virtualization is definitely a trend of IT industry. Virtual Machine Manager not only provides virtualized system resources, but it also combines the powerful advantages of the Btrfs next-generation file system. Lower temperatures complement high speeds
While M.2 2280 PCIe SSDs are currently the fastest on the market, their high data rates also mean considerable heat buildup. Without a heatsink, accumulating heat can compromise performance and accelerate SSD aging. STORM includes an aluminum heatsink that fits on any M.2 SSD without causing overhead issues. Together with the heatsink, STORM uses a fan to circulate cool air and reduces temperature by at least 25% when compared with bare M.2 SSDs.

QNAP Systems, Inc. today released Photo Tagger, an iOS mobile app that allows users to directly tag labels on photos from their mobile devices for personalized classification and more convenient searching on mobiles.

“In the digital era, we preserve our memories using our smart phones. With Photo Tagger, users can add tags to their photos for convenient and easy photo management,” said QNAP Product Manager Sherry Liao.

Photo Tagger is an iOS app specially designed for adding tags to photos, solving the problem of the default “Photos” app not supporting adding tags or notes. Users can add self-defined tags to their photos before or after taking them, providing a smarter and faster way to manage photos. When users save their photos to their NAS, the tags are included in the file metadata for quicker and more efficient searching. Users can also create shortcuts to their most-viewed or most-visited photos by setting related tags as their favorite tags. A QNAP NAS is not required to use Photo Tagger.

Today TDK Corporation announced the gradual launch of SD Memory cards (MMRD4 series) and microSD Memory cards (MURD4 series) from January 2018. Both series support UHS-I for industrial application.

The rapid progression of IoT has increased demand for smaller SD/microSD Memory cards with low power consumption for the storage of sensor information. However, as SD/microSD Memory cards for general use adopt TLC and MLC type flash memory to reduce costs, they are largely unsuitable for industrial application in terms of durability and reliability.
