Synology Inc. announced the official launch of DiskStation DS418play, a 4-bay NAS ideal for serving as a home multimedia center.
DS418play is equipped with a dual-core 2GHz processor capable of bursting up to 2.5GHz. It comes with 2GB DDR3L memory by default, which is twice the size of its predecessor, and expands up to 6GB to enhance multi-tasking operations. Powered by a new hardware transcoding engine, DS418play supports up to two channels of H.265/H.264 4K video transcoding.

Synology Inc. announced the official launch of new product lineup featuring:
- XS-series DS3018xs: Synology's first 6-bay tower NAS with optional 10GbE and M.2 SATA SSD supports
- Plus-series DS918+, DS718+, and DS218+: Greater performance and data resiliency for intensive workloads
- Value-series DS418: Introduction of 4K online transcoding capability
To allow for ultra-high performance using SSD cache without occupying internal drive bays, DS3018xs features a PCIe slot, which can be installed with a dual M.2 SATA SSD adapter card (M2D17). DS918+ comes with dedicated dual M.2 NVMe slots at the bottom where you can directly install M.2 NVMe SSDs. DS418 features 10-bit H.265 4K video transcoding.
XS-series:
DS3018xs, Synology's first 6-bay tower NAS, is compact but powerful as it features the advanced processor Intel Pentium D1508 dual-core 2.2GHz (Turbo Boost up to 2.6GHz) with AES-NI encryption engine, offering scalability of RAM up to 32 GB and of storage capacity up to 30 drives with two Synology DX1215. In addition to four Gigabit LAN ports, DS3018xs takes advantage of boosting maximum throughput with an optional 10GbE network interface card, delivering stunning performance at over 2,230 MB/s sequential reading and 265,000 sequential read IOPS.

QNAP Systems, Inc. today released the TS-x31P2 (available in 2-bay and 4-bay) and TS-431X2 (4-bay) Series with quad-core processors, providing SMB and SOHO users with a more powerful NAS for their collaborative workflows and resource-demanding applications. Both series support Snapshots, allowing users to easily restore the NAS to a previous state in the event of an unexpected NAS failure or when struck by a ransomware attack (The Snapshots feature will be available from QTS 4.3.4). The TS-431X2 also features a 10GbE SFP+ port for empowering containerized applications by using 10GbE networks.
“The quad-core processor on the TS-x31P2 and TS-431X2 allows users to experience a high level of performance and in turn enables performance-demanding functionality such as Snapshots to provide higher protection for NAS data. Western Digital Corporation, a global data storage technology and solutions leader, today launched My Cloud Home, a new personal cloud storage solution that empowers consumers to take control of their often-scattered digital content. With the My Cloud Home solution, consumers can easily aggregate all of their photos, videos and files from their smart phones, computers, USB storage, cloud and social media accounts in one central place. Using their smart phone, tablet or computer from anywhere with an internet connection, consumers then are free to experience and share that content with family and friends.
With their data spread across 14 different devices on average, consumers are faced with growing, disparate collections of data and no way to easily access it all. Those collections are expanding to an approximately 4.5TB of data per U.S. household in 2017 and are expected to grow further with increasing popularity of capacity-intensive applications such as virtual reality, 4K, 8K and 360 video.

Synology Inc. launched the new DiskStation DS1517 and DS1817, powerful and scalable 5-bay and 8-bay desktop NAS. DS1817 is the first Value series equipped with built-in 10GbE LAN ports and an expandable RAM module, delivering future-proof, high-speed storage for professionals and growing small/medium-sized businesses.
DS1817 is powered by a quad-core 1.7GHz processor with RAM module expandable up to 8GB. Thanks to the built-in 10GbE interfaces, DS1817 can achieve outstanding sequential throughput performance exceeding 1,577 MB/s reading and 739 MB/s writing when using RAID 5. The built-in 10GBASE-T ports and 1GBASE-T LAN ports pave the way for businesses to upgrade to a 10GbE environment, and provide the support of Link Aggregation and failover.

QNAP Systems, Inc. today launched the TVS-882BR Blu-ray NAS series (including the TVS-882BR and TVS-882BRT3 models). QNAP also announced a partnership with Fengtao Software to provide an all-in-one backup solution with its DVDFab software. DVDFab provides a complete solution for backing up disc-based files to the NAS for more convenient storage while also enabling NAS-based files to be written to discs for disaster recovery purposes. The TVS-882BRT3 also features four Thunderbolt™ 3 ports, providing a highly-efficient collaborative environment for media professionals, while also allowing instant writing of their creative works to disc. The TVS-882BR can also serve as a Blu-ray player, allowing direct playback via HDMI using Linux Station or Virtualization Station (third-party media player software required - may require separate license purchase).
