Super Talent Technology, a leading manufacturer of Flash storage solutions and DRAM memory modules, today announced they are now shipping their new “USB 3.0 Express RAM Cache™ drive”. Available in 32 & 64GB capacities, this new drive implements a DRAM caching system to boost small block random performance by up to 300%.

As most manufacturers are announcing their first USB 3.0 flash drive, SuperTalent is announcing their fourth. SuperTalent is also currently the only USB flash manufacturer offering a caching system on their drives.

Sequential read and write speeds only show how a drive will perform when copying large files. In “real world” applications, we are often reading and writing 100’s of smaller files and in some cases even booting to the drive. In these instances traditional flash designs show their weakness and a caching system can dramatically improve performance. For example, say you wanted to copy 40 MP3 files to your flash drive. By adding a caching system, the Express RAM Cache drive can now write these same files 260% faster; instead of taking 13 seconds, this transfer now takes less than 5 seconds. As the file size decreases and the file count increase, this time savings becomes even more apparent.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world leader in advanced memory technology, today introduced high-performance 8-gigabyte (GB) and 16GB moviNAND™ embedded memory chips for use in smartphones at the seventh annual Samsung Mobile Solutions Forum held here at the Westin Taipei Hotel. The new solutions are the first memory devices in the industry fully compatible with the latest e-MMC specification, the JEDEC’s Embedded MultiMediaCard Product Standard v4.41.

Adopting the new higher performance e-MMC 4.41 specification, Samsung’s moviNAND can operate more efficiently than previous solutions developed under the e-MMC 4.4 specification by providing features that improve the responsiveness of the e-MMC device to the host (or application processor).

“We have already been providing new moviNAND solutions compatible with e-MMC v4.41 to a few key customers and getting a very positive response from them,” said Seijin Kim, vice president, Flash Memory Planning/Enabling, Samsung Electronics. “These solutions are consistent with our commitment to provide a diversity of technologies for embedded memory to enhance its user-friendliness, in contributing to the rapid growth of the smartphone market.”

Today LaCie spawns a new breed of USB key – the LaCie MosKeyto, an ultra-small flash drive that’s anything but pesky. Joining LaCie’s line-up of award-winning USB keys, MosKeyto ups the ante for power, portability and ease of use.

LaCie MosKeyto measures less than 20mm and weighs 10 grams, making it one of the smallest USB keys on the market. Offering capacities up to 16GB, you’ll be pleasantly amazed at how many bytes you can get from such a tiny MosKeyto.

The stealthy MosKeyto becomes nearly invisible when plugged into your computer, and can even travel with the computer in a protective sleeve or briefcase – just plug it, and forget it. Because it lies flush against your device, there is no risk of damage to the port, computer or key if the drive is knocked or bumped. Additionally, if it’s in your laptop, you won’t lose it.
