Intermolecular, Inc. accelerating research and development for semiconductor and clean energy industries— today announced that SanDisk and Toshiba have jointly elected to take an exclusive license, in a limited field, to Intermolecular's rights in the intellectual property developed under the collaborative development program (CDP) and Intermolecular's background intellectual property thereto. The related technologies have been developed for next-generation memory. The companies' CDP with Intermolecular, specifically aimed at developing certain memory products, materials, processes and device technologies, was concluded on March 15, 2014. Under the terms of the exclusive license, SanDisk and Toshiba will prepay non-refundable royalties in quarterly installments over a predetermined period.
"We believe the memory technology developed within this Collaborative Development Program will result in a competitive advantage for SanDisk and Toshiba in the semiconductor memory market," stated David Lazovsky, President and CEO of Intermolecular. "The IP that has been licensed by these customers is the direct result of leveraging Intermolecular's High Productivity Combinatorial (HPC™) technology platform to accelerate research and development. Beyond delivering value to our customers, this license further validates our unique business model for co-developing and licensing differentiated materials, process and device IP to leading integrated device manufacturers."
Add a commentADATA Technology, a leading manufacturer of high-performance DRAM modules and NAND Flash application products, today launches the Premier SP610 2.5” SATA III (6Gb/s) SSD. With a SMI controller, the Premier SP610 maintains high read/write speeds consistently for stable performance, and also features the advanced BCH ECC (Error Correction Code) technology. The Premier SP610 is ideal for PC builders who are looking to make the jump from mechanical drives to the exponentially faster speeds of solid state drives.
The Premier SP610 offers sequential read/write speeds up to 560/450 MB, and 4KB random read/write speeds up to 73,000/72,000 IOPS, which greatly improves the performance of data transfer. It also provides excellent performance for multi-tasks, including games and often used applications/programs.
The built-in BCH ECC (up to 66bit/1KB) of the Premier SP610 can improve the reliability of transfer and protect data effectively. In addition, compared to the traditional drives, the Premier SP610 consumes very little power with 80mW, which prolongs the life expectancy and reduces power consumption significantly. The ADATA Premier SP610 series includes 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and a massive 1TB in capacity.
Virtium, the embedded industry’s trusted supplier of highly reliable infrastructure SSDs and industrial memory modules, today introduced its second generation StorFly SATA 6G (SATA III) solid state drive product family. Virtium’s Gen2 StorFly SSDs family is available in 2.5 and 1.8-inch SATA, M.2, mSATA, Slim SATA, and CFast form factors. Designed to meet the diverse storage requirements of mission-critical embedded applications, Virtium’s second generation StorFly SSD products provide superior endurance and are engineered for extended product lifecycles. The new StorFly products are optimized for the data types and workloads of a wide range of infrastructure applications including networking, communications, industrial, remote monitoring, transportation, digital signage and gaming systems.
Greatly minimizing the need for costly product requalifications, Virtium’s StorFly PE Class SLC-based SSDs will maintain stable configurations for at least three or more years enabling OEMs to realize a considerable total cost-of-ownership (TCO) advantage. The new StorFly SATA SSDs deliver four times the read performance, along with improved error-checking and correction (ECC) and wear-leveling capabilities, providing greater levels of reliability and endurance compared to the first generation StorFly SSDs. The new StorFly designs also support SMART commands and feature Virtium’s vtGUARD™ power fail protection technology to protect against potential data corruption as a result of an unexpected power loss.
SanDisk Corporation, a global leader in flash storage solutions, today announced the availability of the company’s first, self-encrypting solid state drive—the SanDisk X300s SSD. Leveraging TCG Opal 2.0 and Microsoft Encrypted Hard Drive hardware-based encryption, coupled with a new SSD administration dashboard for easier audit and compliance management, the new X300s SSD delivers maximum data protection and performance to help address IT decision makers’ top data management and security challenges. In making today’s announcement, SanDisk also unveiled a broad ecosystem of independent software vendors (ISV) that enables enhanced security scalability of the X300s SSD.
With today’s expanding mobile workforce and increasingly aggressive threat landscape, corporate data is at greater risk than ever before. According to a 2013 survey by Forrester research, 32 percent of all breaches are due to the loss or theft of corporate laptops. Additionally, between June 2012 and June 2013, business travelers lost over 10,000 laptops, smartphones, tablets and other personal electronic devices in seven of the largest airports in the world. Given these challenges, it is imperative that companies look for certified storage solutions to help protect corporate IP and employee data.
TDK Corporation announced today the successful development of the SNG4A series of serial ATA II compatible industrial solid state drives. The new NAND flash memory modules enable storage capacities of up to 64 GB with SLC type NAND flash memory. Measuring only approx. 22 x 42 mm, the modules support use in M.2 slots and will be available from August 2014.
The new M.2 form factor is currently garnering a lot of attention and is expected to become the dominant standard for consumer applications. Furthermore, the adoption of M.2 for industrial applications will most likely also be promoted heavily. Motherboards for industrial use not only have to achieve good transfer speeds, but there is also a growing tendency to place more emphasis on reliability, since products often have to be operable for periods of ten years or more.
Taking advantage of the fact that TDK develops SSD controller chips in-house, and with a view towards the convenience of industrial customers who prefer being able to use the same form factor for a long time, TDK has taken an early lead and has realized an SSD lineup in the M.2 form factor, with both Key B and Key M support and the ability to process commands up to the Serial ATA Revision 2.6 Specification.
