While best known for its recordable media, Memorex offers an assortment of computer peripherals, including its own line of CD and DVD drives. With their good looks and impressive specs, these drives have been a hit with consumers right from the start. This winter, Memorex introduced its first 18x DVD writer, the MRX-525G. Based on the LG GSA-H22N, the MRX-525G is capable of 18x DVD±R, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW, 8x DVD±R DL and 12x DVD-RAM writing speeds and a maximum DVD read speed of 16x. Memorex's new drive also includes features like 48x CD reading and writing speeds, 32x rewriting speeds and an impressive software bundle from Nero.
One of the latest additions to Plextor's already impressive line of DVD writers is the PX-755UF. Sporting the same specs as its internal counterpart, the PX-755A, this new external drive is capable of 16x DVD±R, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW, 10x DVD+R DL and 6x DVD-R DL writing speeds and a maximum DVD read speed of 16x. As part of Plextor's "Premium" series of drives, the PX-755UF also boasts an impressive list of features. Along with old favorites like VariRec and PoweRec, the PX-755UF supports a number of more advanced technologies like GigaRec, Q-Check and AUTOSTRATEGY.
CDRLabs has taken an in depth look at Lite-On's new 20x "Super AllWrite" drive, the Lite-On LH-20A1H. This highly anticipated drive features some of the fastest reading and writing speeds available. The LH-20A1H is capable of 20x DVD±R, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW, 8x DVD±R DL and 12x DVD-RAM writing speeds and has a maximum DVD read speed of 16x. The drive also has many of the features we've come to expect from Lite-On, along with more advanced ones like SmartWrite. While one of the biggest promoters of the Blu-ray Disc format, Sony hasn't abandoned the DVD quite yet. This fall they announced their 12th generation DVD writer, the DRU-830A. Based loosely on the Samsung SH-S182D, the drive is capable of 18x DVD±R, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW and 8x DVD±R DL writing speeds and has a maximum DVD read speed of 16x. The DRU-830A can also read and write to DVD-RAM media at 12x, the fastest speed currently available.

Based on the Pioneer DVR-111, this new "Super-Multi" drive is capable of 16x DVD±R, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW, 8x DVD±R DL and 5x DVD-RAM writing speeds and has a maximum DVD read speed of 16x. The DRW-1608P3S also includes features like 40x CD reading and writing speeds, 32x rewriting speeds and support for technologies like FlextraLink and FlextraSpeed.
