Any opinion buy Sony DDU1621 ? -Is it finally good drive ? -Many people say not other say excellent perfomance -What firm version works better on it ? -Does it finally support all DVD formats ?
Any (link) test available ?
I'm working in Greece . Sony DVD retail box costs now 60 euro is it good buy ? -(it's the cheaper drive available here)

BTC drive

Postby vbl117 on Mon Jan 06, 2003 4:37 pm

It's a rebadged BTC BDV-316B OEM drive .

http://forum.firmware-flash.com/dl_firm ... ufactor=30

. I don' t love BTC drives ( i have a 32X BTC CD-ROM drive ) . I don't think BTC drives are good drives .
It is notorious that BTC drives cannot read or copy protected audio cd like Key2audio or CDS200.
it does not support all formats .

Look this review about the BTC 16X DVD-ROM DRIVE . U ll see if it fulfill your requirements .

Thanks "vbl117's" for your answer !

Reading the BTC review in Cdrinfo link (the other link doesn't work?), also the other DVD Round-up Volumes in this site, no one of well Known DVD-Roms look better in total perfomance !
So must check any Sony's DVD owner opinion ,because customer's opinion is always more reliable than testers !

Any other help is welcome !

Best Regards

This Sony 16x drive may also be a Liteon 16x. Just check the drive label before buying.

If it's a BTC, then it's not that great when it comes to VCDs and audio CD. I have had one before but ditched it due to bad flash.

Perhaps your explorer doesn't work properly !

DDU-1621 is an OEM BTC DVD-ROM drive whereas DDU-1611 is an OEM LITE-ON DVD-ROM drive . This can explain that people have different advices about SONY DVD-ROM drives  .

"Reading the BTC review in Cdrinfo link (the other link doesn't work?), also the other DVD Round-up Volumes in this site, no one of well Known DVD-Roms look better in total perfomance ! "

I disagree . Most of the DVD-ROM drives are much better ( LITE-ON , TOSHIBA , PIONEER , ARTEC , LG ETC ... ) if you read the reviews .

LITE-ON LTD-166S DVD-ROM drive is cheap and supports multiformat ( that's what you want ! Isn't it?) .
TOSHIBA supports too multiformat but it costs more .
ARTEC and LG DVD-ROM drives are cheap too .

In all cases , do as you want !

Arzeno's link working now ,maybe was offline.

Sony DDU-1611 not official and wide available cause maybe temporary production...

Reading conclusions on DVD tests mentioned , how can explain many negative points of each well known model ? (all models support main DVD formats in these reviews...)
So only working customer's opinion is better tester than "official" reviews ,
also for Sony DVD.

"all models support main DVD formats in these reviews"

what is main dvd format ? Most of the time on DVD-R DVD-RW DVD-R+ DVD-RW+ formats one is not supported . LTD-166S support these formats and supports too DVD-RAM .
i have not tested it though ( and i don't have enough money to buy a DVD burner  ) .

All drive has negative points yes . Some negative points are very important , some less . It's true that it seems that there is a lot of DVD drives which cannot handle protected audio cd ( so perhaps i was wrong ) .
But , in my opinion , some drives are still better than BTC .

On DDU-1611 subject , of course , LITE-ON doesn't need anymore SONY to sell his products . Everyone knows his brand now .

Goodbye ! Good luck in your DVD-ROM drive quest .
