Postby Ian on Mon May 07, 2007 10:08 am

We've seen the rumors, but here's the closest we've come to seeing proof that Star Wars will be released on Blu-ray.

Star Wars Trilogy (Episodes I - III) (Blu-ray)

Star Wars Trilogy (Episodes IV - VI) (Blu-ray)

Wow! Does anyone know when/how does Amazon post an upcoming product page? I'm wondering just how "confirmed" this really is!

It's unlikely any ONE of those events would be possible to happen, let alone all of them at once :P

The non-adulterated versions were released on DVD last fall. Believe it or not, I didn't buy them.

A friend picked them up, and he has bitched non-stop about the crappy quality of the original versions. Sounds like they were more or less direct lifts from the Laserdiscs, with no enhancements.

By the way, I was being ironical with my original statement :D

Yeah, that's essentially what they were. I think what most Star Wars fans want is a cleaned up, remastered version of the original.

Hey guys. So don't know if it's quite what you need... but I have found 1080p versions of the films (episodes 1-6 in 1920x1080 resolution). However, it isn't available to buy. I found them in a torrent, so, technically, not the most LEGAL thing to do. Also, its about 45+ gigs (like 8 gigs per film), so that's another issue. But if you guys don't mind loosening your morals a bit, you can check it out http://isohunt.com/torrent_details/51400969/star+wars+1080p?tab=summary.

There you go, have fun,

There isn't a movie more absurd than that Episode 4. It's a script that makes no sense. First of all, the script is a clone of the 1977 star wars, i.e., a princess in distress, looking for a few suckers to help her to restore her empire. But to make the script worse, they de-rail the mesg. of the war of good vs. evil, by having a damage ship suck in a planet. Then they have no money to get spare part. So they have to pawn money in a car race.

How retard do you think the viewers have to be for them to believe these fairy tales? It's like saying the Head of State was being chased by terrorist, but the car is damaged, and neither the secret service agent or the Head of State has any money to buy spare part. So they pawn the car to gamble in a car race, hoping they can win and get the spare part for the repair.

These DVD/Blu Ray belongs in the shooting ranch, so you can say "Pull"

Isn't Episode 4 and the 1977 Star Wars are one in the same? :-k

Anyway, say what you will about the prequels, but the original trilogy are classics.

Episode 1 was the Phantom Menace. And yeah.. that was the worst of the six. The best part was probably Darth Maul and even then he had about as much personality as a rock.

Re: Star Wars Coming On Blu-ray!?

Postby SERIOUS7 on Thu Jun 17, 2010 10:14 am

Star Wars is beginning to get lonely at the top of the "franchises that need
to come to Blu-ray" list. With the release of The Lord of the Rings trilogy
this month, it leaves George Lucas' six-film anthology set in a galaxy far,
far away as the one big geek property yet to be transferred into high
definition. Of course, there are questions. Will the Blu-ray include the
original theatrical versions of episodes four through six? Will George Lucas
make any more creative choices that will enrage fans to the point of
countless documentaries about fandom scorned?

For the moment, we have none of these answers. We do, however, have
information from Steve Sansweet, Lucasfilm Director of Fan Relations (what a
cool-ass, yet stressful job that must be). He spoke this past weekend at the
Chicago Comics and Entertainment Expo (C2E2) about Star Wars and its Blu-ray
future.

"We have been at work for a couple of years working on - I won't call it the
Ultimate Set because we keep finding stuff - but, a very full set of all six
movies on Blu-ray with lots of extra material," Sansweet told IGN. "We're
finding all kinds of scenes from dailies that have never been seen before.
Beyond all of those things that you know about. there are some real
treasures."

Despite speculation from various Blu-ray beats saying that they are
targeting an October 2011 release, Stansweet would not confirm any time
frame. He did say that "it won't be in the too distant future."

Speaking of the not too distant future. Stansweet also commented to IGN on
the rumors about all six Star Wars films being re-released in 3D: "George
has publicly expressed an interest in doing Star Wars 3D. Right now there
are a number of different technologies, there's some criticism out there
about some of the movies that have quickly changed to 3D, so you have to
pick the right technology, you have to get it to a cost that makes sense,
and you have to have the time of the director and producer - George - to
actually go in there, because you can't push a button and stuff goes in one
end and comes out 3D.

"Saying all that, George remains very interested in doing the Star Wars
movies, all six, in 3D, and I hope it will happen someday in the not too
distant future."

Those were from Spike TV or whatever. They may be in 1080p, but the bit rates and audio are no where near Blu-ray quality.

Love for it to remain as it was released in the theater in the 70's and 80's... with the exception of the Ep. 1 - 3... just re-do those with some better acting.

The format is big enough they could probably do a as released version, then his latest new and improved version on the same disk, that would be worth it and I hope they do it that way.

Okay... its up for preorder on Amazon. For real this time..

Star Wars: The Complete Saga (Episodes I-VI) [Blu-ray]

Star Wars: The Complete Blu-ray Saga will feature all six live-action Star Wars feature films utilizing the highest possible picture and audio presentation.
Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace
(32 Years Before Episode IV) Stranded on the desert planet Tatooine after rescuing young Queen Amidala from the impending invasion of Naboo, Jedi apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi and his Jedi Master discover nine-year-old Anakin Skywalker, a young slave unusually strong in the Force. Anakin wins a thrilling Podrace and with it his freedom as he leaves his home to be trained as a Jedi. The heroes return to Naboo where Anakin and the Queen face massive invasion forces while the two Jedi contend with a deadly foe named Darth Maul. Only then do they realize the invasion is merely the first step in a sinister scheme by the re-emergent forces of darkness known as the Sith.

Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones
(22 Years Before Episode IV) Ten years after the events of the Battle of Naboo, not only has the galaxy undergone significant change, but so have Obi-Wan Kenobi, Padmé Amidala, and Anakin Skywalker as they are thrown together again for the first time since the Trade Federation invasion of Naboo. Anakin has grown into the accomplished Jedi apprentice of Obi-Wan, who himself has transitioned from student to teacher. The two Jedi are assigned to protect Padmé whose life is threatened by a faction of political separatists. As relationships form and powerful forces collide, these heroes face choices that will impact not only their own fates, but the destiny of the Republic.

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
(19 Years before Episode IV) Three years after the onset of the Clone Wars, the noble Jedi Knights have been leading a massive clone army into a galaxy-wide battle against the Separatists. When the sinister Sith unveil a thousand-year-old plot to rule the galaxy, the Republic crumbles and from its ashes rises the evil Galactic Empire. Jedi hero Anakin Skywalker is seduced by the dark side of the Force to become the Emperor's new apprentice - Darth Vader. The Jedi are decimated, as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Jedi Master Yoda are forced into hiding. The only hope for the galaxy are Anakin's own offspring - the twin children born in secrecy who will grow up to become Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia Organa.

Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope
Nineteen years after the formation of the Empire, Luke Skywalker is thrust into the struggle of the Rebel Alliance when he meets Obi-Wan Kenobi, who has lived for years in seclusion on the desert planet of Tatooine. Obi-Wan begins Luke's Jedi training as Luke joins him on a daring mission to rescue the beautiful Rebel leader Princess Leia from the clutches of the evil Empire. Although Obi-Wan sacrifices himself in a lightsaber duel with Darth Vader, his former apprentice, Luke proves that the Force is with him by destroying the Empire's dreaded Death Star.

Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
Luke Skywalker and his friends have set up a new base on the ice planet of Hoth, but it is not long before their secret location is discovered by the evil Empire. After narrowly escaping, Luke splits off from his friends to seek out a Jedi Master called Yoda. Meanwhile, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, and C-3PO seek sanctuary at a city in the Clouds run by Lando Calrissian, an old friend of Han’s. But little do they realize that Darth Vader already awaits them.

Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
(4 years after Episode IV) In the epic conclusion of the saga, the Empire prepares to crush the Rebellion with a more powerful Death Star while the Rebel fleet mounts a massive attack on the space station. Luke Skywalker confronts his father Darth Vader in a final climactic duel before the evil Emperor. In the last second, Vader makes a momentous choice: he destroys the Emperor and saves his son. The Empire is finally defeated, the Sith are destroyed, and Anakin Skywalker is thus redeemed. At long last, freedom is restored to the galaxy.

Three additional discs and more than 30 hours of extensive special features including never-before-seen deleted and alternate scenes, an exploration of the exclusive Star Wars archives, and much more.
