CDRLabs DVD Writer Poll - February

Postby Ian on Wed Feb 01, 2006 6:21 pm

Vote for your favorate DVD writer. By doing so, you'll hopefully help those looking to buy a new drive.

Once again, I tried to chose original drive designs that are currently available or will be soon. I also threw in a few rebadged drives from Plextor and Sony just to make it interesting.

Feel free to leave comments and an explanation as to why you voted the way you did. Also, if there's a drive you'd like to see added to the poll, let me know.

For reference, here's the top 5 drives from January's poll:
1. BenQ DW1640
2. Plextor PX-716A
3. BenQ DW1655
4. LG GSA-4167B
5. Pioneer DVR-110/A10

I really like my 1640, seems to record better than my 2500A and 3500A, which I've used as my primary DVD recorders in their times. It also handles that large stack of 4x media I have at 8x really well; these include PRODISC S03 and RICOHJPN R01.

A little more than a week to go and the DW1640 is still leading the pack. The DW1655 is catching up though.

I'm surprised by the poor turnout of Pioneer, NEC and Plextor owners. Maybe they aren't proud of their drives?

Come on people.. vote!

maybe if you go BenQ DW1640.
i've got a DW1620, and it's a good drive, i'm not saying it isn't, but i can't say i'm thrilled with it.

Well... for its' time it was pretty good. I think the DW1640 will hold its' own for a while longer yet though. No other drive has ever wow'd me like the DW1640.

What would your choice be?
There is hardly any difference in cost between the 1640 and 1655 over here, but those polls are making me lean towards the older model :o

Does anyone else think BenQ should re-release the DW1640?

Nope, its a fine writer but I think my 1655 is even better, plus it's just beginning the fine tuning by updates.
