Buffalo Announces Pioneer DVR-111D Based Drive

Nope.. not a typo. The latest drive from Buffalo is based on the Pioneer DVR-111D.

I guess we know why the DVR-110/A10 are being discontinued in some markets.

While the chassis is different, I'm not really seeing a big difference as far as specs go.

Nice slam dolphin! Never pass up an oportunity to badmouth the 110!! Mine has worked "properly" for hundreds of burns.

Wait til you see my review of the ASUS DRW-1608P2. Works fine for single layer media but DL is ugly.

I pulled most of these specs from Buffalo's website. Aside from faster DVD-RAM and slower DVD-Video read speeds, are there any other differences between the DVR-110D and DVR-111D?

Pioneer's earlier drives were the same way. The DVR-110D was the only one with riplock removed. I got that spec from the press release.. it could be wrong.

I wonder why the drive does not come with either Labelflash or Lightscribe since majority of Manufacturere adding these functions?.

Sure it has its' moments and areas that work great. But it's not a competitive drive compared to what's on the market. I'm not JUST talking burn qualtiy either, or even burn speed. The drive was just slow in general. Slow in media support, slow in burning media (but MUCH better then previous Pioneers) and slow in reading discs. And the quality between drives varied so much it would make LiteON blush! (and yes, maybe you have a good drive! but that doesn't make the whole line good).

Pioneer have some great drives, but they are sometimes very slow when it comes to support specific media
