What dvd burner would you recommend to me?

Postby shimman on Mon Mar 29, 2004 3:51 pm

hello,

after having much troubles with 708a (now, i am having difiiculties to read cdrs), i decided to let it go.

since dvd+mrw is not implemented fully by anyone, i think i will get dvd burner that produce high quality burns on almost all medias especially no name brand ones. i also hope to get one without any serious issues or compatability problems.

it seems nec 2500, pioneer 107, and lg supermulti 4082b are in my mind, but i am open to any drive with a good reputation for reliability i am inclined to reliability/price rather than performance

any suggestion?

Mostly everyone here will recommend getting the Pioneer 107. It's your best bet. I personally have an NEC 2500 and have had no problems or coasters. For me at the time the price difference was key because I'm always upgrading all the time. At the time of my purchse the diffrence was
Pioneer = $180 and the NEC is less than $100. The gap in pricing on these units has decreased and thats why I'm sure everyone will chime in on the 107. To me the $30 to $70 price difference can be applied to more media or applied to a newer/faster burner in a couple of months.

I would have to agree with you. I just purchased the NEC 2500 for my girlfriend and I LOVE IT. Im tempted to get one myself as well. Best bang for the buck Ive found as of yet. Oh, no coasters thus far.

If your going to be replacing a PX-708A, the only way to go is the Pioneer DVR-107, or wait for the PX-712A/SA...

The Pioneer DVR-107 is the only way to go :D It's the best burner I've ever owned so far, there is nothing i wouldn't use it for (well, okay, it's not great with RICOHJPNR01 DVD+Rs)

I use my Pioneer DVR-107 for all regular burning now, whether CD-R or DVDR, and it took quite a good drive to push my LiteON 48125W onto the back bench for CD-R burning! Even the Plextor premium couldn't do that

thanks for your info.

after reading your recommendations & overclockers.com's editorial, i think i will wait until july to see how double layer capable drives are doing & issues associated with them.

i might just buy dvr-107 if i can find someone who will buy my 708a.

i think pa-708a was one of the worst investment i have made in few year in computing except my iwill kk266 motherboard

thanks again for all your recommendations

Why not try the BenQ DW822A its DVD9 upgradeable? I've not seen any bad posting on the DW800A its predecessor. But yeah if you can wait you're better off.

If you want to buy right now I would recommend the Pioneer 107d drive. If you need software you can buy the Pioneer A07. I bought the Pioneer A07 because I wanted all the software it came with.

You may want to wait until later to see how good the new drives will be. People have been saying a new Plextor drive is coming out. Pioneer will probably have new ones too. Other companies will have new ones too.

Dual layer should be here soon.

I have about 75 of the Memorex ( RICOHJPNR01 DVD+Rs ) and was thinking about getting the 107. Is there any hope ???

Edit: I was reading at RPC1 forum that NIL is preparing a 1.12 patched firmware that will burn 4X +R at 8X. This would be a knockout punch for this drive over all others if it were possible.
