Mad Dog 8x Dual Format dvd burner Question

Does anyone know who makes this drive? Are they real drives made by the company or is the drive id changed so you can't use the companies firmware from their web site?

Mad Dog rebadges drives, they don't make them.

Hasn't Mad Dog been using Artec drives in their CD-RW kits? It's possible this is based on Artec's new DVD writer.

It should be a BTC DRW 1108IM...

I highly doubt that it's an NEC or a Pioneer. Mad Dog also commonly sells BTC manufactured hardware.

The 1108 or 1008?

The box says 8X DVD+/-R+/-RW so I'm assuming that it is the 1108 since the 1008 is only 4x DVD-R

According to this post:
http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?t=22965&start=27

The drive one person got was an NEC ND-2500A.

Thank you for posting what you found.

That's awesome that somone got a Nec drive.

These may be black drives. The picture on the web site shows it's black.

I'm not sure if they are or not. If they are that would be cool. I think a lot of people are looking for a black drive.

I actually thought they would be Btc drives or something like dhc014 posted.

If anyone else buys one of these drives or read about somone buying one, please post here what it was. It will help people out if they want to buy one.

Now we have to figure out how to tell if they are all nec drives are not. The guy from your link said his was made in Malaysia. Maybe if it's a different drive it will be made somewhere else. I'm not sure if you can tell by the serial number, like you can with the Pacific Digitals, or not.
