Bitsetting tool for Lite-On drives and regionfreeing tool!!!

Postby OC-Freak on Sun Dec 28, 2003 10:07 am

Someone heared your wishes and I've found a few new utilities for you! :D

First the bitsetting program: Download it here.

Requirements: Lite-On DVD-Writer (unsure if the LDW-401S is supported yet - will probably be in next firmware release) with the latest firmware. Personally I've tested it with LDW-411S with FS0G.

Note: For now it only work as it should with DVD+R discs and not with DVD+RW discs - this may be fixed later.

This is how it look (push the query button to see current settings):

Image

Click Change and choose DVD-ROM from the dropdown menu:

Image

If everything goes well you should see this:

Image

And then this:

Image

Now I just let the program run in the background and start my favourite burning software: Nero - and writes the disc.....

After the disc is written this is the results:

Image

And another test with DVDinfoPRO:

Image

Tested in various drives and it's detected as DVD-ROM by all of them!!!

ENJOY!! Guess this is one of the first dual format drives to allow bitsetting - and without any firmware hacks etc!! Just a little program........

And then we have the Region freeing utility: Download here

Shold work with all Lite-On manufactured drives.

This is how it looks:

Image

Select your Lite-On drive in the dropdown menu.

Query: shows the current state of the drive - my picture shows what information a regionfree drive should show.
Disable: Makes your drive regionfree.
Enable: Makes your drive RPC2 (not regionfree)
You could also reset both user and vendor counters as well as changing the region.

ENJOY!!!

And finally rdgrimes found a newer K-Probe version than the one that we have been using: Version 1.1.28.

Read more and download in the Kprobe thread.

Only minor fixes - that concerned the read speed test and write speed test.

very nice!
another reason to buy LiteOn drives :D

is LtnRPC for DVD writers only or for DVD-ROM drives too?

if they're for DVD-ROMs too, what's the difference between this and the older tools on digi's page?

Are these the utilities NicW has supposedly been working on?

NO.

The RPC should should work on any LiteOn drive, and possibly some others too.

non LiteOn DVD-ROM drives that use the same chipset as LiteOn DVD-ROMs do?
would that be MediaTek?

Trial and error, suggest those with non-LiteOn drives try it out.
Doesn't work on my Pioneer 106D.

The region code tool Nicw made only works with true LiteOn drives, some of the OEM drives are using different firmware or something and supposedly it killed a few so he pulled it to be safe and fix it later. I used his tool on my true 811 and it worked fine and still works fine but non true drives might not be so lucky.
And hey thanks RD for sharing the Joy, I knew there were more reasons I bought a 811 then I would know at the time.

1: You MUST have the newest firmware for the bitsetting tool to work!!!

2: ltnRPC should work with all Lite-On manufactured drives, both DVD-ROM's and DVD-Writers. Should work with OEM's as well.

Do not work with non-liteon drives.

Tested with and found to not work with:

Pioneer DVR-106
LG GSA-4040B
BTC DRW-1004IM (this one is mediatek based)
Plextor PX-708A

So it seems to be Lite-On only.

i presume that if LtnRPC works with a drive, querying it will give:

Image

on my Toshiba SD-M1712 (with hacked J004 firmware) i get 052000 INVALID COMMAND OPERATION CODE. i take this to mean it doesn't work with my Toshiba.

another one for the sad "doesn't work" list. :(

It will definately not work on any drives that were not manufactured by Lite-ON. It also may not work on certain older model DVD-ROM's, and with older firmwares for some drives.

I think it would probably be best if we do not ask these questions, but instead keep a respectful silence in hopes that these wonderful presents keep arriving. We all remember what happened with our last batch of presents right?

Thank you "mysterious author" !!! :D

Well, I'd like to thank this mysterious author for these great utils. Lite-On would be smart to reward such a person for these sorts of things and include them with their drives.

That book type setting tool should be a huge marketing tool for LiteON... and it probably WOULD be, if there was anyone with more then 2 brain cells in their marketing department.
