Plextor PX-708A now at Best Buy

Postby bobmitchell on Sat Sep 06, 2003 10:40 pm

Happened to be walking through a Best Buy near my home in the Dallas area...saw 1 PX-708A on the shelf....guy from Best Buy just put it there...I couldn't resist....someone had given me a $100 gift card...and I made the rest up in cash and took it home...SWEET!

Does everything as specified. I had quite a few Verbatim Data Life Plus 4X DVD+R from my other burner. So I decrypted a home movie...with DVD Decrypter. Then used DVD2One 1.30...to squeeze it...and then burned on the Plextor...burned the entire movie in 7:23. I know that someone had posted that the burner would burn 8X in 8 minutes plus...not so...this thing starts burning at 6X and by 10% of the disk...it's at 8X, using Nero 5.5.10.42. This is a GREAT drive...worth the wait...

actually this past friday i went to my old best buy (one i used to work at) and they had em way up in top stock, said they couldn't sell them till this sunday, direct orders from corporate

could just be a retarded sales person, the way i see it is: If i see it i can buy it, if i want to of course ;)

the red box gave em away, i knew right away what it was, i was tempted to ask the employee price, haha i still have friends there

also bobmitchell check out dvdshrink

it sounds like what your doing is taking a lot longer than it should

www.dvdshrink.org

it rips the dvd gets rid of encryption and region, then just drag into nero, and hit burn

whats nice about dvdshrink is that you control everything, take out this, end movie here, to all fit on 1 dvd without having to compress too much, if at all

I just really like the quality picture I get out of Decrypter and DVD2One. I have used SVD Shrink...It's OK. Personally...I feel I get better quality out of DVD2One. I actually use em both...

if you don't compress with dvdshrink the quality stays the same

ive found if you compress over 70% you start to notice a difference

but with dvdxcopy and dvdxcopy express, don't you get that annoying beginning message, the dvdxcopy warning saying its a copy

and also you can't copy a copy with dvdxcopy, same thing with express?

If I want a 1:1 copy, split onto two disks.

I'll use DVDXCopy, then copy that with Smart Ripper to HDD, replace the menu files on the DVDXCopy burned disks with the original menu files. That way it doesn't give me the stupid warning, but it does tell me when to switch disks. Takes a while, but for me, in some cases, it's worth it.

Oh yeah, use Rewritables when using it with DVDXCopy.

The warning is a hassle, but the backup is only there in case you lose the original, so you may never have to play the copy...

Regarding the one copy only thing:
I personally think that is good, because it allows a user to make a single backup, and prevents people from making multiple copies of a movie and then trying to sell it.

After you read the dvd with Dvd X Copy. Go into the Dvd X Copy folder where it was created and delete the ts video file thats around 183kb smallest one. The nagging message at the beginning will be gone.
