What´s the differnce? TDK DVD-R 8x, TTG02 or TTH01?

I have some absolutely fabulous Luxembourg TTH02 from Costco, for under $0.24 CDN/disc. CMC also makes TTH02 for TDK...

Yup.... you're lucky! Some others got some much less then "absolutely favulous" TDK media in the same sale. The quality seems to vary worse then B Grade Optodisc (as in, it could be great or a coaster or anything in between).

Even the made in Luxembourg ones? I know the CMC stuff is HIGHLY variable, but I would have though TDKs own factory has good quality control.

I know you've mentioned before that these sales are one of TDKs ways of dumping their B grade stuff, but I suspect the 25packs made in Luxembourg weren't meant to be sold during this sale...

Do you think the TTH01 8x ScratchProof [Made in Luxemboug] is going to die sometimes ?
Let's say during next year ?


Should I believe that both of these new 16x ScratchProof TDK DVD Rs
(of media code TDK-003 and TTH02 I suppose )
are manufactured in Luxembourg ??

TDK luxembourg seems to make TDK003 and TTH02 scratchproof and earlier non scratchproof media.
Then there is CMC like I said earlier who makes only non scratchpoof so far.

And for TTH02 we also have infosmart who is abusseing this code !

TTH01 will probally discontinued next year if production hasn't allready.

It seems that MAM does also produce TTH01 for TDK (correct stamper code.). However there are still some questions about some mam media.

I would like to thank MAM or TDK for being not cooperative so far on this issue.

Incase of cdfollie the disc's are genuine. (Stamper code matches TDK style).

There is a very good picture of these medias sold by cdfolie on page 1 of this thread.
They are sold in spindles and advertised by the vendor as made in Luxembourg by TDK.

Well the problem is that TTH01 is for most people not as easy to get.
Then how many folks have a large ammount of drives to do some serious testing about it.
And then there is the question do the folks have time to do all extensive testing. While I can get a lot of drives if I would go the hard way and have access to TTH01 media I really don't have the time of doing all these tests.

And even then there is still a question how much TTH01 fluctuates in quality.
Were C't results comming from a extreme good batch.

Not to spoil the party but with the last box of TDK 90 minutes (luxembourg) I had quite some very problematic disc's. 6 out of 10 were really crap.
Which makes me have some doubts about TDK luxembourgs quality controle.
On The other hand all other 90 minutes tdk disc's I have used were very good and so far I've still seen only TDK manufactur good 90 minutes media.

Yeah but on the number of used 90 minutes disc's from TDK compared to other 90 minutes disc's this is still ok.
All other disc's had C1 average arround 1 (mostly lower )
and no C2 with my Lite On 52327S. (Even on 52x !!)
Tested with K-probe and CD-speed.
No other 90 minutes media so far has been able to pull that one off specially if take into account the number of disc's.
Also most of the other stuff when it comes to 90 minutes media means 10 out of 10 bad disc's tested under normal testing conditions in my case

Still this stuff is easy to spot that is if your store has them !! (Which is the main problem)

All jewelcassed packages I've seen so far look like this:

I've never seen spindled versions personally but I've seen some webstores advertise them.

Atip is probally 97m15s05f but I will check with my own disc's.
Notice that the info of Instantinfo is incorrect.
Unlike other 90 minutes media tdk's media can be burned on burners which normally doesn't support 90 minutes burning (some older burners (HP), some pioneer oem DVD burner models !)
This media is when put in correctly recognised as 90 minutes/800 mb media.

Any other way to get this ??
Well imation currently has 90 minutes media which clearly states made in luxembourg on the market. As only TDK has a site at luxembourg it's easy to know who made them.

One other point I like to make about MAM TTH01.
Some users (for instance on german board rohlingtest) report quite bad results with primeon (made by MAM-E) TTH01. Switching the code to MAM-E if the drive supports gives much better results.

Looks like MAM-E might be screwing arround with the dye's !

These "Industrial DVD" by TDK with TTH01 code

- sold on line cheaper than the normal "dark grey" ones by CD folie here

- have been tested by a member of Gravure News called Jubus
and there are also scans of "normal dark grey" ScratchProof TTH01 discs bought at Auchan.

True... that sale will be happening near the end of this month, or the beginning of next month.... but I'm pretty sure that product is B grade. I've heard some complaints about it elsewhere. I'll be picking up my first spindles of it for testing soon though.

Those are most likely TTG02 made in Taiwan by CMC Magnetics. I think these are the only TTH01 discs to show up stateside.
