Anyone know who makes StarLogic 1X DVD-Rs on sale at OM?

Postby VEFF on Sun Jan 18, 2004 2:36 pm

I picked them up, along with a new printer for my 2nd PC.
The printer was only $50 AR (includes ink) and better than my current 2nd printer which needs an expensive new printhead.

It is once again snowing here!
The good thing is that OM was very quiet :)

The StarLogic 1X DVD-Rs are $9.99 after rebate for 50.
I picked them up, and thought I would ask around about the media ID before opening them.
[b]Does anyone know anything about the StarLogic DVD-Rs?[b]

I need to pick something else up at OM in the next day or so, so I can always return the StarLogic discs at that time.

The speed is also a factor, since I have been burning at 8X for a while.
I was planning to kick the 1X burns off before I go to bed, if I keep the discs...

Do you think this is a decent deal? I have heard mixed things about Princo, but the price seems right, even if there are a lot of coasters.

Princo never is a decent deal since in the long run you will have to burn the data over to something else because of the media that is dying because of the low quality cyanine dye Princo uses.

I have not had too many problems wioth Princos (back when I had a Panasonic DVD-R/DVD-RAM combo drive and a DRU-500A).
They seemed to be ok as long as you kept the data to be burned to disc at 4 gigs and under.
That is not good for me, since my home videos take up closer to 4.2 or 4.3 gigs each.

For $10 AR (+$2.50 in tax on the $30 paid, in state where I bought it)
it seems worth the risk, depending on what peope say about them.
I am not going to open mine (got plenty of Memorex 4X +Rs, some TDK 4X +Rs and some Verbatim 4X +R and 2X -R media) may return them midweek if the user reviews are not good...

If they aren't found to be reliable, I would rather return them and pay 80 cents a disc and get reliable 4X +R media that can be burned at 8X and won't be useless now (coasters or skipping) or down the road. (deterioration and/or skipping)
