CDRLabs DVD Writer Poll - August

Postby Ian on Fri Aug 04, 2006 11:45 am

Vote for what you think is the best, all around DVD writer. By doing so, you'll hopefully help those looking to buy a new drive. Once again, I tried to chose original drive designs that are currently available or will be soon.

Feel free to leave comments and an explanation as to why you voted the way you did. Also, if there's a drive you'd like to see added to the poll, let me know.

For reference, here's the top drives from July's poll:
1. (tied) BenQ DW1650/1655, Pioneer DVR-111/A11, Plextor PX-760A/760SA
2. LG GSA-H10N/H10L/H10A
3. (tied) BenQ DW1640, Lite-On SHM-165H6S/165P6S

The mighty BenQ DW1640 has finally been retired. It's been a good run, but now you guys will need to vote for another drive instead. :D

I voted for the BenQ DW1655 which is ever so slightly better at burning than my LiteOn SHM-165P6S.

If I had considered all aspects of the drive, such as how well they read and how useful they are as scanners, I might have voted for the LiteOn instead.

@Ian, if what you want people to vote for is the best all-round drive, and not just the best writer, then I suggest you say that explicitly. :)

Hrm... I interpret "Choose The Best DVD Writer" to mean just that, choose the best all-round drive. I think by DVD Writer Ian just means DVD burning drive, and not singling out the writing component in particular.

I voted for the BenQ DW1650/DW1655. My second choice would probably be the Pioneer DVR-111.

I get what you're saying. Maybe "DVD±RW drive" instead of "DVD writer"?

Or something like:

Choose the best all-round DVD±RW drive
...poll options...

Vote for your favorite all-round DVD±RW drive, taking into consideration everything you think is important about a DVD±RW drive. ...

You could of course explicitly list the different aspects that might be important such as burn speed, read speed, burn quality, how well it reads problematic discs, whether it can scan (reliably) etc.

But that might be counter-productive because it could force the voters into thinking *only* about the listed characteristics, instead of going with their current opinion about which drive is their favorite.

It's all up to you of course.

But... but... I still prefer the DW1640 over the DW1655 for now. It may be off the charts but still one of my fave burners tho' I have voted the Pnr-111 the last 2 months now.
