Buslink 8x DVRW812D Dvd Burner Question

Postby hydrogen on Sun Feb 15, 2004 6:27 am

Does anyone know who makes this drive?
http://www.compusa.com/products/product ... sr&ref=dsr

http://www.buslink.com/index.cgi?view_p ... 7891139210

Are they real drives that you can use the companies firmware or is the id string changed?

Has anyone has any experience with Buslinks rebates? If so how are they?

Thank you.

I think it's a Lite-On LDW-811S/851S. Specs match up, looks like it too. Also, Buslink has been known to use Lite-On in the past.

It might be a Liteon 812s as the part number is the same as this drive. If so, you will have 8x write capabilities for DVD+R and DVD-R. Great price for the drive.

quite a few people around here have had bad experience with Buslink rebates.
UALOneKPlus is one of them if i recall rightly.

Just came from Compusa. The drive is a Liteon 811s as it only offers 4x DVD-R and 2x DVD-RW recording speeds.

Thank you guys for your answers.

vsekh,

I have never heard of a Liteon 812s. The only ones I've seen for sale or 811s and 851s. Where do people buy them from and why aren't they mentioned on Lite On's web site? Is there more Lite On versions I don't know about.

Did you buy the drive? If not how could you tell it was a Lite on 811s?
Thank you for checking at Comusa and telling me what the drive was.

dodecahedron,

I've heard the same thing. I've read on another forum where people have had a very tough time getting Buslink's rebates. I'm not sure if this was a Buslink rebate or a Compusa rebate. I didn't check. I was going to mention the forum where I read where people have had problems getting Buslink's rebate, but I wasn't sure if it's ok to post links to other forums here.

Is it ok? I'm sure most of you guys have heard of this forum. It's a deals forum.
