IDT And Micron Form Alliance To Develop PCIe SSD Technologies

IDT® (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.), a leading provider of essential mixed signal semiconductor solutions that enrich the digital media experience and Micron Technology, Inc., one of the world’s leading providers of advanced semiconductor solutions, today announced they have entered into an alliance to develop PCI Express (PCIe®) Solid-State Drive (SSD) technologies for the server, storage and embedded markets.

As part of this alliance, IDT and Micron will co-develop enterprise flash controllers with a PCIe host interface optimized for Micron’s flash devices and future generation RealSSD™ solid-state drives. Combining Micron’s extensive experience in flash design and SSD development with IDT’s proficiency in PCIe solutions and memory interface products will enable devices to achieve lower latency, greater performance and new levels of storage integration.

The product offers digital consumers and business professionals a stylish and affordable back up device with dual connectivity, robust software features and up to 1TB of capacity from a trusted brand.

“On the heels of successfully building a 2.5-inch external HDD business, we are ready to expand our hard drive expertise into the 3.5-inch HDD market,” said Michael Cassidy, director, accessories and HDD marketing, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., Digital Products Division. “We designed the external hard drive to provide consumers an easy-to-use back up option that not only performs above competition, but is also a stylish accessory for their PC.”

The Toshiba 3.5-inch External HDD features dual connectivity with high-speed USB 2.0 and eSATA ports, as well as a robust software application that offers reliable and easy data protection. In addition, the software package allows consumers to not only back up and restore selected files, but also their entire system.

Recognizing the growing popularity of netbook and notebook products, Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. today announces a new slim portable DVD/CD writer, the DVR-XD09, that features the industry’s most compact design to date. The new DVR-XD09 weighs approximately eight ounces and has an overall size that is slightly larger than a music CD case. Simply connecting the DVR-XD09 to a PC through the USB 2.0 port allows users to easily transport, connect and back up valuable data files in virtually any location setting as well as across multiple computers.

Samsung Launches High Density Spinpoint F3 Hard Drives

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a worldwide leader in digital consumer electronics and information technology, announced today its new line-up of high-density hard drives for high-end computing environments, the Spinpoint F3. The F3 operates at 7200RPM with offerings of up to 1 Terabyte (TB) data storage capacity by using two 500 Gigabyte (GB) per platter disks. As well as meeting data center requirements for addition storage to meet rising demand and increasing performance needs, the new drives also deliver high-performance with lower power for desktop computers and servers.

The Spinpoint F3 utilizes advanced 500GB per platter technology, so that two-platter 1TB capacity is achieved.. Increased areal density per platter provides up to a 30 percent higher performance than a three-platter 1 TB in the same 3.5” form factor. A reduction in mechanical parts also contributes to enhanced reliability in terms of anti-shock and data failure.
