Micron Technology, Inc., today announced its next-generation solid state drive (SSD) for data center servers, appliances, and storage platforms that manage the volume and velocity of big data. The new Micron P400m SSD is a high-endurance SATA caching and storage solution that was designed to handle the amassing petabytes of structured and unstructured digital information that is created, stored and accessed every day in data centers.

Data reliability and system uptime have always been primary concerns for data center managers, but the accelerating influx of data and massive demand spikes add new pressures that require different, more responsive storage systems. The Micron P400m was designed precisely for this environment. Today, CDRLabs brings you a review of SanDisk's new ReadyCache solid state drive. This affordable, easy-to-install caching solution lets consumers significantly improve their desktop computer’s performance, while utilizing their existing hard drive’s storage. Designed to boost a desktop computer’s boot, shutdown and application launch times, ReadyCache combines a 32GB 2.5-inch SSD with ExpressCache software by Condusiv Technologies. This software, sold exclusively by SanDisk, can be installed on any desktop PC running Windows 7 and, unlike most other caching solutions, can pull data from multiple hard drives of any capacity.

Solidata has finally taken the wraps off its new K8 E 1920GB 2.5" SATA SSD. The company announced today that this high-capacity SSD is now available for purchase and that they've already shipped some orders. The K8 E 1920GB is aimed at industrial and enterprise users and includes features like 4x (yes FOUR) SandForce SF-1222 controllers, an SATA II (3Gb/s) interface and high speed MLC NAND from Micron. All this comes packed in a standard 2.5'" form factor that is compatible with both notebook and desktop computers.

According to Solidata, the K8 E 1920GB is capable of delivering up to 240 MB/s sequential read and 210 MB/s sequential write speeds as well as up to 6,000 random read and 4,000 random write IOPS. The drive is covered by a respectable 2 year warranty and is expected to be available worldwide by the end of January. Pricing will be announced at a later date.
