Western Digital today introduced its new My Passport® Essential™ portable hard drive, My Passport® Essential™ SE portable hard drive, and My Book® Essential external hard drive. All three drive families come in a variety of capacities and offer lightning-fast USB 3.0 connectivity. Highest industry capacity is another key feature for the My Book Essential drive, which is now available in 3 TB capacity, in addition to 1 and 2 TB capacities. Equipped with WD SmartWare™ visual backup software for automatic, continuous backup, these drives provide users the extra space they need to store or back up all of their digital memories, such as high-resolution photos and videos, along with music and other critical files, all in one place.
The drives not only take advantage of the latest blazing-fast USB 3.0 technology, but are also fully compatible with USB 2.0 connections for those who have yet to upgrade their computers to USB 3.0. When connected to a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 port, consumers can transfer data at speeds up to 5 Gb/s. At that rate, a two-hour HD video will transfer in as little as three minutes. The same two-hour video would take approximately 13 minutes to transfer on a USB 2.0 port.
My Passport Essential, still WD's smallest portable drive, is available in a 500 GB capacity and comes in five fun colors – Midnight Black, Cool Silver, Real Red, Pacific Blue and Arctic White (Arctic White only available in EMEA and APAC). My Passport Essential SE portable hard drives are available in 750 GB and 1 TB capacities and come in stylish black, silver, metallic blue and metallic red colors. The pocket-sized My Passport portable hard drives are powered directly through the USB cable; no separate power supply is needed.
Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST) today announced its new 375GB/platter, 5,400 RPM and 7,200 RPM, 2.5-inch hard drives – the Travelstar™ 5K750 and the Travelstar 7K750 hard drive families. Along with the extremely low lag time, users can immediately experience system startup at superb speed when installing the Combo II Elite as the system disk in any laptops. The same experience is also found when opening programs, and running image processing software with no presence of lag. Therefore, the Combo II Elite is a perfect partner that meets the demands of art designers and brings more perfect experience than any conventional hard disk drives.
Hitachi-LG Data Storage Inc. (HLDS), a global leader and technology innovator in optical disc storage (ODD), revealed to introduce SATA 6.0Gbps based 2nd Generation, 'Hybrid Drive', as a successive product to ODD Hybrid Drive 1st Generation introduced in Taiwan last June which was loaded with SSD (Solid State Drive) for the first time in the world, at CEATEC 2010 held in Makuhari Messe, Japan, from October 5 to 9.
The 2nd Generation, 'Hybrid Drive', is an innovative product equipped with SATA III (6.0Gbps) based improved speed, and a comprehensive SATA port, by accumulating ODD & SSD circuits in a integrated PCB. This is a perfect reincarnation of the previous ODD structure, and users of all PC products can utilize HDD, ODD, SDD at the same time without having to change the entire system, by just exchanging the previous ODD.
Differentiated functions have been added to the Hybrid Drive such as the Green Playback; a low electricity - Title playing technology, and a comparison of real functions between Hybrid Drive applied products and non applied products of AIO (All-in-one) PC, Mini PC, HTPC, Gaming/Premium Notebook, will be introduced at this CEATEC 2010.
Micron Technology, Inc. today announced that Hitachi-LG Data Storage Inc. (HLDS) has selected Micron's award-winning 25-nanometer (nm) NAND as the flash memory solution for its new hybrid optical disk drive (ODD). The new HLDS Hybrid Drive with Micron's 25nm NAND technology provides a comprehensive mass storage and removable media solution for PCs, DVD players and Blu-ray products.
Micron's 25nm NAND process technology delivers 8-gigabytes (GB) of storage in a single device, enabling new applications that require high capacity storage in space constrained designs. The initial portfolio of HLDS Hybrid Drives will be offered in a range of embedded flash memory capacities including 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. Higher NAND capacities of the Hybrid Drive will be available in future versions.
"The success of Micron's 25nm NAND flash memory has driven yet another innovative application," said Kevin Kilbuck, director of marketing for Micron's NAND solutions group. "The HLDS Hybrid Drive breakthrough is another example of Micron NAND flash technology's impact on everything from digital cameras and MP3 players, to smartphones, tablet PCs, and now hybrid ODDs."
Fengtao Software, a professional multimedia software provider, promotes its new products to the market -- DVDFab HD Decrypter, which enables users to backup encrypted DVD/Blu-ray to hard drive for free.
We all know that most publishers of music and films in digital form have turned to encryption to make copying more difficult, which is really frustrating for DVD/Blu-ray lovers to backup their favorite and protected disc content to hard drives on their computers.
CSS, which is used on DVDs, is a famous example of this. It is a form of copy protection that uses 40-bit encryption. Copies will not be playable without a key which is not writable on DVD-R or DVD-RW discs. With this technique, the work is encrypted using a key only included in the firmware of "authorized" players, which allows only "legitimate" uses of the work. Later, more DVDs attempted to augment CSS with additional protection schemes like ARccOS Protection, which was made by Sony and deliberately creates corrupted sectors on the DVD so as to cause copying software to produce errors. There are lots of other copy protections for DVDs. Of course, many protections are also used on Blu-ray, and we won't talk about them one by one.
Transcend Information, Inc., a worldwide leader in memory and storage products, has announced the availability of the largest-ever 32GB microSDHC memory card, which doubles the capacity for cell phones and other mobile devices that rely on microSDHC storage.
Transcend’s new 32GB Class 2 microSDHC card is no bigger than a thumb nail and weighs less than a paper clip. Despite its tiny dimensions, the 32GB microSDHC card offers sufficient space to store up to 6552 pictures (based on 10 megapixel JPEG compression format), 480 minutes of Full HD video, countless hours of music, or thousands of electronic texts.
microSD and microSDHC cards are commonly used in mobile phones, as well as in some newer devices such as eBooks, handheld GPS devices, portable gaming consoles, and so on. microSDHC cards are aimed at heavy mobile users of cell phones or eBooks. Moreover, Transcend’s highest capacity microSDHC cards are the most economical memory-expanding solution to increase the amount of built-in memory for expandable mobile devices.
Responding to the global trend toward smartphones, Silicon Power, the world’s leading manufacturer in flash memory, today releases its whole series of microSDHC Class 10 memory cards. More compact than a size of guitar pick, this microSDHC card can achieve the extremely powerful speed of Class 10 standards. Combining with the excellent function of high-end consumer electronics, it will boot up a new lightning era of mobile digital life for everyone.
While smartphone gradually becomes an integrated center of mobile communication, social networking, commerce, and learning, consumers demand not only the functionality of basic specs and apps, but also the quality of digital contents such as photos, videos, music, and other files. Yet, only when combined with data storage with more speedy and durable performance does high-end smartphone reveal its superb functions. Thus, Silicon Power grabs this opportunity and launches the microSDHC Class 10 memory cards, enabling consumers to fully experience the merit of smartphones.
