SandForce announced today that the company shipped more than one million of its SF-1500 and SF-1200 SSD Processors since they were released into production in 2010. SandForce Driven™ SSD Manufacturers shipped over an estimated 100 Petabytes of NAND flash into the mainstream computing markets – enough to store two billion four-drawer filing cabinets full of text, or over 5,000 years of continuously played standard DVD movies. This milestone marks the rapid and broad acceptance of the SandForce SSD Processor family in the marketplace – a trend that SandForce continues to build on with the recent introduction of the second-generation SF-2000 SSD Processor family.

The new SandForce SF-2000 SSD Processor family extends the momentum established by the first-generation products by offering up to double the read/write performance along with enhanced error correction, built in double encryption, and a 6 Gigabits per second SATA III interface. SandForce has already signed up 27 SSD manufacturers and system vendors for its prominent SandForce Driven™ program, which brands manufacturers’ SSDs as having the highly awarded processor inside. They also recently announced the new SandForce Trusted™ program to identify suppliers of equipment, tools, and services compatible with SandForce SSD Processors to improve overall time-to-market with SandForce-based SSD solutions.

silicon power v20 ssd.jpgWorld leading flash memory manufacturer Silicon Power today announces the new 2.5" SATA Velox V20 series Solid State Drive (SSD). Instantly boosting PC performances, it uses the latest SandForce controller, featuring a maximum read-speed of 285MB/s and write-speed of 275MB/s so enthusiasts can sit back and enjoy the speedy transfer rates!

Silicon Power’s V20 SSD uses the latest SandForce controller, it boasts a continuous read / write speed up to 285MB/ 275MB per second, respectively. An actual test using a 40GB V20 required only 13 seconds to boot into Windows and open up a program. It is the perfect enterprise office PC storage solution or the ideal boot-up disk in any PC! In addition, V20 SSD also supports TRIM Command and Garbage Collection technology to counter performance drop issues due to long period of use and continuous write actions.

Using SandForce controller’s patented DuraClass technology, it can extend the SSD lifespan up to 5 years! The DuraWrite technology optimizesthe to-be written data to a reserved 7% flash memory storage block that acts as an intermediate station before data are written with an amplification less than 1 to their final storage blocks. This vastly reduces the occurrences of bad sectors and thus extending the lifespan.

While many organizations depend on the portability and simplicity of USBs for data management, removable media became an unfortunate focal point in 2010 for some of the most troubling security events — from Stuxnet to Wikileaks  — and consumerization only served to raise further issues of control. However, when deployed correctly, the portability and simplicity that characterize USB risk can be its greatest asset, enabling it to serve as a strategic security tool.

SanDisk Corporation, the global leader in flash memory cards, today announced that Acer has selected the 32-gigabyte (GB) SanDisk® SSD P4 modular solid state drive for use in its Iconia Tab Windows 7 tablet. SanDisk SSD P4's combination of capacity, size, speed and reliability offers a compelling storage solution for OEMs who design high-performance ultra-thin notebooks and tablets.

The SanDisk SSD P4 fits Acer's thin design and low power consumption requirements for its newest tablet. Solid state drives (SSDs) use flash memory technology, and with no moving parts SSDs offer improved durability that helps prevent data loss from drive failure. SSD-equipped devices generate less noise due to their fan-less design and come in smaller form factors than are possible with conventional hard disk drives (HDD).

"The SanDisk SSD P4 is designed for thin, high-performance productivity tablets such as Acer's Iconia Tab Windows 7 tablet," said Kevin Conley, senior vice president, solid state drives, SanDisk. "As the tablet and mobile markets converge, cost-effective modular SSD solutions from SanDisk allow OEMs to create high-quality products that are tailored to their customers' needs."
