OCZ Technology Group, Inc., a leading provider of high-performance solid-state drives (SSDs) for computing devices and systems, today announced the release of Z-Drive Revision 4 (R4) PCI Express (PCIe) storage solutions designed to dramatically accelerate enterprise applications and significantly reduce total cost of ownership in the data center. The Z-Drive R4 product line features OCZ’s second generation proprietary Virtualized Controller Architecture (VCA) 2.0, providing the utmost in performance, flexibility, durability and enhanced reliability features, allowing data centers, for the first time, to rely on a PCIe-based SSD as their primary tier one storage solution.
"Objective Analysis forecasts that the PCIe interface will become dominant in the enterprise SSD market in 2012, with unit shipments greater than the combined shipments of its SAS and Fibre Channel counterparts,” said SSD analyst Jim Handy of Objective Analysis. “This is because the PCIe interface puts less drag on the NAND-to-processor communication channel than do standard HDD interfaces. By 2015, Objective Analysis expects well over two million PCIe SSDs to ship, a number larger than all of the SATA SSDs that shipped in 2010.”
Transcend Information, Inc., a worldwide leader in storage and multimedia products, today introduced its new USB 3.0 multi card reader, the RDF8. The new reader utilizes a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface and supports the latest ultra high speed card formats, including SDHC UHS-1, SDXC UHS-1, UDMA6/UDMA7 CF and MSXC cards, allowing avid photographers and video enthusiasts to effortlessly copy high-resolution uncompressed images or 1080p Full HD video files from their memory cards to their computer.
The RDF8 USB 3.0 card reader is equipped with a next-generation SuperSpeed USB 3.0 connection interface that delivers transfer speeds up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0 card readers. Thanks to the increased bandwidth of USB 3.0, data can be carried to the computer as fast as the user’s memory card permits. When paired with an Ultra High Speed (UHS-1) SD card, for example, files as large as one gigabyte can be transferred in less than twelve seconds.

Toshiba today announced its first 2.5-inch hard disk drives (HDDs) featuring capacity up to 1TB using 500GB/platter technology in the industry-standard 9.5mm high form factor. With an industry-leading areal density of 744Gb/in2, Toshiba has increased the quantity of data stored per square inch by over 37 percent compared to prior 2.5-inch models, enabling a significant boost in data transfer speed. Available in capacities ranging from 1TB to 250GB, the MQ01ABD series provides the capacity, performance, and power efficiency necessary for even the most data-intensive and energy-sensitive mainstream storage applications.
The MQ01ABD drives are ideal for high-end notebook and desktop PCs, mobile workstations, gaming consoles, DVR set-top boxes, external storage solutions, and other applications requiring high-capacity and cost-effective storage. In addition to delivering best-in-class storage density, which contributes directly to increased performance, Toshiba’s MQ01ABD series HDDs have been engineered for superior energy efficiency — the series HDDs consume only 0.55watts during idle mode. The MQ01ABD drives also offer improved acoustic performance, emitting a maximum of 19dB at idle and 24dB during seek operations. This combination of areal density, power utilization, and acoustic performance enables PC and consumer electronics makers to build differentiated systems based on capacity, performance, heat dissipation, and power efficiency.
