The Pico Motile is a smaller version of Super Talent’s Motile USB drive that provides users an option to transfer files on the go. QNAP, Inc. today upgraded its VMobile app for iOS to version 3.0 to enhance operational efficiency and user experience with the addition of a low-bandwidth mode and improved user interface.
With the greater use of mobile devices, being able to manage surveillance systems while on-the-go has become increasingly popular. However, the convenience of using these apps is usually compromised with a bad live-view experience caused by limited network speeds. In order to combat recent bash vulnerability issues, Thecus today released a Bash patch for both Thecus OS5 and OS6 users. It is strongly recommended that all users update their NAS with this latest firmware.
The patch will fix the GNU Bash Environment Variable Command Injection Vulnerability, also referred to as Shellshock (CVE-2014-6271, CVE-2014-7169, CVE-2014-7187, and CVE-2014-71861), which allows unauthorized users access to remote Unix/Linux-based systems.
For ThecusOS 6, users can download the OS6 Bash offline patch V1.0. The patch is applicable for the following units:
- N2310, N4310
- N2520, N2560, N4520, N4560
- For ThecusOS 5 x64, users can update their firmware to v2.05.06 to apply the Bash patch. This firmware is applicable to the following units:

Pioneer Japan recently sent out a press release, announcing its new portable, clamshell type Blu-ray Disc writer, the BDR-XD05J2. This USB 3.0 equipped drive measures only 133 × 14.8 x 133 mm and weighs in at a mere 230g. The BDR-XD05J2 is capable of 6x BD-R, 6x BD-R DL, 6x BD-R LTH, 2x BD-RE and 2x BD-RE DL writing speeds and a maximum BD-ROM read speed of 6x. It also writes to triple- (100GB) and quad-layer (128GB) BD-R media at 4x and triple-layer (100GB) BD-RE media at 2x.
The BDR-XD05J2 includes features like Pioneer's PureRead2+ technology and an "advanced silent mode" for when playing movies and audio discs. It also includes a new "intelligent eco mode" which shortens the recording time and reduces the drive's power consumption when in standby mode by about 40%. The BDR-XD05J2 ships with authoring and playback software from CyberLink and is expected to hit stores in late October for about 13,000 Yen ($121US).
