Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc., a committed technology leader, announces the immediate availability of dual-port functionality on OCZ's award-winning Z-Drive 6000 NVM Express™ (NVMe) Solid State Drive (SSD) series. The Z-Drive 6000's addition of dual port connection enables two host systems to concurrently access data from the same storage device or provides a redundant access path to the drive, providing SAS-like features such as High Availability (HA) that storage architects have come to rely on.

Now dual-ported, the Z-Drive 6000 series represents a complete solid-state storage solution that supports the real-time I/O needs of business-critical enterprise applications and virtual infrastructures which require high bandwidth and low latency performance, but also need redundancy. The Z-Drive 6000's dual port capabilities enable redundant data access that eliminates a single point of failure and when two hosts are using the same drive, maintains Quality of Service (QoS) in an event when one data path is compromised. In addition to the dual port upgrade, the Z-Drive 6000 series now includes feature enhancements such as multiple namespaces, non-binary sector sizes, and self-encrypting drive (SED) with Crypto Erase.

Panasonic Corporation today unveiled its enhanced "freeze-ray" series Data Archiver, using 300GB Optical Discs (scheduled for release in the 2nd half of 2016) at the OCP U.S. Summit 2016 being held March 9-10, 2016, in San Jose, California. Panasonic is proposing a data archiving system based on large-capacity optical discs to complement conventional recording media, such as HDDs and magnetic tape, for use in high-efficiency, next- generation data centers.

Panasonic's Optical Disc-Based Data Archive System has already been adopted in corporations and public institutions that require long-term data storage. "freeze-ray," which was developed through extensive validation and testing to be deployed in the data centers of a large-scale Cloud Service Provider in the US, was announced in January at CES 2016 in Las Vegas, as an Optical Disc-Based Data Archive System based on 100GB Blu-ray Disc. (See the Development Background of the freeze-ray Series below.)

In order to provide at-scale data storage, the enhanced freeze-ray system adopts Archival Disc with a recording capacity of 300GB per disc. Use of the 300GB Archival Disc will enable a maximum of 1.9 petabytes (1 petabyte = 1,000 terabytes) of data to be stored in a standard 19-inch data center rack.

Sony Optical Archive Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony, today unveiled the Everspan Library System (Everspan), a scalable optical library system solution that delivers archiving capabilities far exceeding the capacity of what is available in the marketplace today, at a fraction of the cost.

Everspan utilizes Sony's 300 GB Archival Disc to store data.  Unlike tape or hard disk drives which need to be refreshed/replaced every 5-7 years, the Archival Disc can support data storage for over 100 years in data center environments. Because of the durability of optical discs, unlike other storage media, users are expected to never need to migrate data and Sony is offering 100 year warranty for optical media.  Everspan also provides speed and efficiency with a vastly reduced environmental impact.

"We believe that Everspan addresses a large and rapidly growing need in the storage marketplace," said Frank Frankovsky, CEO of Sony Optical Archive Inc. "In a world where customers have been frequently forced into deciding which data to retain based on the ongoing cost of archiving, Everspan provides a welcome and affordable solution.  It is our goal to make it possible for customers to store everything for as long as they wish in a low-touch, low-cost optical library.

seagate logoSeagate Technology plc today unveiled a production-ready unit of the fastest single solid-state drive (SSD) demonstrated to date, with throughput performance of 10 gigabytes per second (GB/s). The early unit meets Open Compute Project (OCP) specifications, making it ideal for hyperscale data centers looking to adopt the fastest flash technology with the latest and most sustainable standards.

The 10GB/s unit, which is expected to be released this summer, is more than 4GB/s faster than the previous fastest-industry SSD on the market. It also meets the OCP storage specifications being driven by Facebook, which will help reduce the power and cost burdens traditionally associated with operating at this level of performance.

“Your data is only as good as how easily you can access it and put it to use,” said Brett Pemble, Seagate’s general manager and vice president of SSD Products. “Seagate is committed to providing the full spectrum of technologies to help meet the diverse needs of organizations so they can unlock this value. Whether for consumer cloud or business applications, this SSD will help improve on demands for fast access to information, where split seconds drive incremental value gains.”
